So despite having one sample track, it looks like the 7 samples can be sequenced separately (on my reading of the manual).
Welcome back, Yamaha. We’ve missed you.
Possibly the most underwhelming promo vid I’ve ever seen.
Looks dope!
So you can resample synths into slots. That’s cool. Removes the limitation of 3 total synth tracks.
But can you play those samples like a synths or they’re just “yo” and “swoosh” one shots?
16 second sample time per sample. I assume that applies to resampling.
Very interesting!
I love that the patterns can be switched for each sound individually, probably my #1 wanted feature on Elektron gear.
I probably won’t get it with my deep investment in iOS land already. But for the price I can see it being a compelling jam device. Definitely kinda curious to hear more from it, I’m a big fan of Yamaha’s synth/fx engines.
Edit: If you could route the external input into fx/mastering in realtime, this alongside a mono synth would be a very powerful tiny setup.
From my reading of the manual, looks like you can change the pitch of a sample, and parameter lock it. but I haven’t spotted any note input for sample tracks yet.
Yeah. I saw it after posting. Bummer.
I asked on their YT if they allow at least user samples for drums. I’ll watch the app tutorial video
Looks like you can parameter lock the pitch of a sample though.
I’m trying to suss out whether you can have seven samples on the sample track (one on each button so I could, say, load up a CR78 Samples from Mars pack and play that group) or if it’s 7 buttons to play a single sample chromatically. Song mode, y’all, and resampling. Hear that TE?
Also wondering if effect tails carry over on pattern changes. And I’m guessing that line in is strictly for samples and not for routing through fx into a DAW.
The fx/parameter and preset list PDFs are impressive. Not sure I need this with a KO2, an SH4d and a Syntakt, but I’d sure love to fiddle with one. Hovering over pre-order cautiously. Imma need a Loopop video stat.
Really didn’t see Yamaha throwing down this hard for NAMM. Two weeks in and Dirtywave, Yamaha (!) and Stylophone (!!) already have my NGNY in jeopardy. The next few weeks are going to be a test.
This.
It seems to me that conceptually it is much closer to the Novation Circuit than something like the OP-1, although the design may remind us of it.
They should have just called that thing op-y, lol.
Oh shit, GAS activated! I would buy it for aesthetics alone. Was always wondering why most music gear looks horrible with notable exceptions from Teenage Engineering and perhaps Torso. I’ll probably pass on this but I’m intrigued!
This looks amazing, at first glance, and it’s cool to see what someone like Yamaha can do with the OP-Z idea. Forma start, the FX look way more usable than anything on the OP-1.
But the TE stuff is great because of the UI design. it’s just so well thought through. I bet this isn’t anywhere close to thr]e OP-Z in terms of the sequencer, but it also looks way better for sampling. I’m in!
I just mostly love that Yamaha enters the fray in full swing.
