Yamaha SEQTRAK

So I’ve been working on something which I think is pretty cool.

I’ve found this thread and the one over at Gearspace really useful in learning about what this thing is capable of, so thanks to everyone that shared useful info regarding the MIDI capabilities of this machine. I am a web developer by trade, and have been meaning to put my skills to use in a project like this for a while, that being said, and I’m not gonna lie - I’ve leaned in with the AI quite a lot here  It’s been amazing and allowed me to create in a few weeks, something that would have taken me months.

I was heavily inspired by the amazing work of Kier Darby and his KDx editor. This literally blew my away when I saw what this things was capable of, then I thought I could have a go at something similar

To be clear, this is nowhere near as comprehensive or polished as KDx. If you’re looking for a full-featured, highly refined editor, I’d absolutely recommend that, but what I’ve done is already covering different ground and offers quite a different user experience.

It’s designed to work on smaller screens and even loads and works perfectly in the free iPad app Web MIDI Browser!

With an iPad (running Web MIDI Browser), and a 3rd party MIDI controller, you can really get some nice hands on control over the SeqTrak without any other software required.
So, with that said, I’m pleased to announce:

TweakTrak

  • An advanced editor for the Yamaha SeqTrak groovebox, providing deep access to AWM2 engine parameters via MIDI SysEx.
  • Part editor (Drum Tracks, Synth 1, Synth 2, DX Synth, Sampler)
  • 8 Element editor for Drum and Synth tracks with selectable waveforms (including user waves!)
  • DX Synth Editor
  • Basic Sampler editor with user waveform select for the elements.
  • Track mixer with control over sends and dry levels including A/D and USB inputs!
  • Effects: control over send levels, Master FX, EQ, etc.
  • MIDI controls with external control input and basic MIDI learn for AWM2 Part level controls (filter & amp sections)

It’s still very rough around the edges—very alpha. There’s missing functionality, some things don’t work quite right yet, and I have a long list of ideas for improvements. But the core works! It’s already highly functional and unlocks the SeqTrak in ways you might not have realised were possible. I certainly didn’t.

Everything is contained in a single file, so you can download it and run it locally, or just use it directly from the web (which is easier). I will probably open this up on Github at some point too.

Give it a spin and let me know what you think!
