Yamaha Reface CS thread

The algorithm served me up some more An1x patches for inspiration. Gonna stick it here before I lose track of it.

Wish this had velocity and an arp. Otherwise I have no complaints, this synth is a classic.

For a minute I was thinking of maybe getting rid of the CS as part of my recent studio clean out, but I just watched this video again and man I just can’t do it. So many sounds in here that I just love. What a vibey synth.

I sold mine and got another one 2 years later. It’s so easy and fun to use it and i really like the sound of it. Keys and faders feel very nice too.

Agree on that video! Alas the patch storage. I guess I just need to accept it.

Just bought one of these. So much to love:

  • Perfect size for couch / lap / outdoor use plus speakers and batteries means its actually convenient and fun for mobile stuff
  • Nice curated selection of parameters is very inspiring. I love the limitations on this. Really rewards focused sound design. Finding uses for oscillator sync that never made sense to me on more complicated synths like the Novation Peak.
  • Looper is like, amazing. its so good to be able to record insanely long sequences!
  • I love that it has no memory. You find something inspiring, you need to record it! I have plenty other synths with presets and stored sequences.
  • The manual was written by a human. It’s just so much easier to read and learn than, say, the Roland S-1 manual.

Stoked about this, cant wait to spend more time with it

great to hear!

i ordered one yesterday, because i am looking for a polyphonic minimalistic budget synth to add to my DT2. microfreaks haptic felt horrible to me, but the Yamaha looks so promising and its exactly the points you have listed, that made me so excited about it when i researched.

cant wait too!

ive been seeing these pop up locally and its been making me wanna reunite. match it with a shoulder strap gig bag and i could see it being a beautiful reconnection

That’s how I roll with mine. Band mate gave me a little korg gigbag with a shoulder strap. It’s just a little big for the cs which is nice because I can toss in a couple cables, a notebook, etc and be self contained.

I love this little thing
something I would never not use

definitely the best “synthesize for 60 seconds” device ive ever had. turn it on every spare minute i have cuz it slots into my life so nicely. have used it in every room of my house and im taking it to a cabin next week.

Roland S-1 also great for this and way tinier to throw in a bag, but the CS is just the nicest to use.
