That MELLO-FI was the first Arturia VST I ever got. Used it on everything for a while when I was more ITB. Since I’m more hardware based these days I tend to use SPs to dirty stuff up. But, when I track in to Ableton it almost always gets used on something even if just to widen the stereo field on a pad.
I’m not sure how simply clicking a preset and pressing “record” counts as “THE ONLY CS80 SHOOTOUT YOU’LL EVER NEED”. Especially when, as noted above, the presets between these plugins are miles apart.
I mean, just look at how different the fader positions are in even his first BRASS 1 + BRASS 2 example:
Zero effort was expended to do even a visual alignment of settings between these plugins, much less the more valuable (and necessary with respect to the actual CS-80 hardware) matching of settings by ear. This video is comparing apples vs. oranges vs. bananas vs. kumquats vs. watermelons as if that’s a valuable thing.
Of course they all sound different. They’re literally set up to sound different.
I got more of an impression that he thought the punters would know it wasn’t a scientific comparison as no one titles a video like that with a title like last shoot out you’ll ever need, but I think he’s just a fan of poly-aftertouch and a fan of the CS-80 in general and I can’t fault him for that.
Nah. Dude’s previous two videos are him screwing up a Xils comparison and him apologizing for screwing up the Xils comparison. I think he’s just bad at this.
And whether or not he thinks we know the test’s not scientific, he still says:
Whether you’re a synth purist or looking for the best CS-80 VST for your Mac, this deep dive will help you decide!
I just want to make sure people here know that’s not true. It’s probably one of the worst videos to use for this because none of the settings are the same between the VSTs or the CS-80 itself.
damn i haven’t seen those other clips, i hope people can see the settings but for those who can’t
you know, i hope he sees this thread, this could be the one that turns the whole youtube game around for him… we might have just saved the world today but I’m not taking all the credit it was a family effort
I’m still on the Softube version. Not switching either.
