Hey, just wondering if anyone has experience using the Allen and Heath Xone 23C (or any Xone mixer) as an audio interface?
I have a Windows machine and am wondering about drivers, latency etc.
My current setup uses an MX-1 which functions as a regular mixer when the computer is off and a soundcard (with a channel dedicated to a stereo DAW out) when the PC is on. Latency for the MX is solid at 64 with moderate use in Live. Want to know if the 23C can achieve similar results…
I used to use a DB4 with a MacBook Pro and drivers were so unstable that I ended up selling the DB4.
Not sure though the 23C would have the same issues, furthermore on a PC.
For getting the confirmation from A&H, they had stopped developing drivers for the DB4.
Thanks for all the replies! One follow up question; how do you control the volume of your computer’s signal into the mixer? Is it auto assigned to a particular channel and controlled with a fader? On the MX-1 there is a dedicated “PC” channel fader for handling audio from your DAW but I haven’t noticed any individualized pots or faders in the Xone series…
You use the ‘Input Gain’ pot at the top of the channel. Just like you would for a phono or line level connection into the mixer.
On the PX5, USB audio from the mixer is pre-fader and is determined by a toggle next to the inputs. You can select ‘Phono’ or ‘Line’ as the input source for USB. It is taken directly from the input and returned pre-input gain. So, I use my iPad and AUM as insert effects on each mixer channel. You can then even route the returned audio through the onboard FX. This mixer also let’s you use USB audio for send/return when it is set to ‘EXT’ or ‘DUAL’. There’s a toggle on the mixer for this.
I don’t know the details on the 23C but I imagine the signal path for USB audio i/o is similar.
