I have the Digitakt OG, it was my first ever Elektron device and love it, I probably don’t use it as much as I do the Digitone or Peak, but it’s central for my beats. I mainly sequence from the Hapax so the extra steps in it’s sequencer are not an issue, but I like the idea of stereo samples.
What are your thoughts on the upgrade now you have had it for a while? Worth the upgrade or wait a little while. I wish they’d added a proper slice mode like on the OT, but maybe that is why they didn’t do it. If they did and added an Arp it would be an instant buy for me.
…if u don’t use it that much and all u miss is stereo samples, then do the truu stereo spread and use two tracks for the “same” sound…
stereo is so overrated but only magic if u really use it for truu stereo content…
For me it is def worth the upgrade. Most important features:
Increased number of RAM and sample slots: This has the biggest impact for me. Now I just assign samples for pattern C04 to bank C, slots 40-50, etc. This makes the sample mgmt so much easier and care free (I make all my patterns in the same project).
The only small downside of DTII is that it packs more features within the same form factor (ok they did add a dedicated song button). But the form factor of DT1 was designed for the feature set of the DT, whereas with the DTII you often need more steps to get what you want. You get used to it, but it can make the experience a bit more sluggish at times. Though this doesn’t weigh up against the big benefits
…yup…but as with most hw realtime stretch algos, it really shows it’s limits pretty fast…
works great within reasonable bpm changes, anything beyond 10 bpm up or down it becomes more a sounddesign tool, like the very first ableton warp modes, which were, of course, THE bad must have shit back then…
and sure, if the dt2 is tickling u, why not sell ur og dt, put 3 or 4 hundred bux on top and just get it…it’s with no doubt the hotter and more flexible alllround sampling device to aim for now…
but, think twice and start to use ur og dt for real again before u make that decision…
and if so,keep in mind then, the dt2 is pretty much the final answer to all sorts of hw sampling and sequencing…nothing else will serve u any better from there…if that one also gets not used that much, it really would be a shame…anybody who got a syn and a digitakt 2 at once must know, there’s no room left for any complaints ever again…if this combo does not the trick for u, nothing will…
