Add a Magpie Modular Dubldeca (MIDI to CV converter designed specifically with the Octatrack in mind) and rack the spare OT with your Eurorack rig so that it’s a self contained unit.
You could make a breakout panel with the MIDI in and thru and the audio i/o so that you’d never actually need to access the rear of the OT in normal use.

kind of a sidenote: is it possible to control OT xfade with another OT xfade?
Sure. 
Or even better : an X/Y pad for both!
Or a Joystick, with neutral position.
