I heard a bald Athenian guy say that one of the goals of trump is devaluing the USD, to which end the tariffs are working just fine. What will a weaker USD mean for gear prices in the future?
Weak dollar would mean that US-made stuff would be more affordable overseas, so would help with the idea of bringing manufacturing back to the US. Stuff from overseas would be more expensive with a weaker dollar though.
Strong dollar and high US prices would mean a lot of people outside of the US wouldnât be able to buy US-made gear.
Yeah, but wouldnât stuff cost more USD to produce (because raw materials would cost more dollars) and thus increasing the price in USD, offsetting any conversion gains?
Producing in the US is definitely going to be expensive any way you look at it. Right now though, even before the tariffs, the US dollar is way too strong for me to buy higher-end US goods.
I got notice from a supplier about tariffs on small order. Previously any order under $800 was exempt, it wasnât worth the paperwork and administrative oversight for US customs to collect a few dollars and cents on small orders. This will change soon:
I was already planning to move out of the US this year which now seems like a smart decision.
This will spread everywhere though⌠Changes are coming and this is just the start⌠the vast majority will find it hard to buy something like a synthesizer but we will see massive benefits too because a lot of stuff like food and clothes will basically be free⌠Jobs will be very rare and most will live in a pretty abundant life without working. Remember the whole " you will own nothing and be happy" thing? This is just the start of that. I hate to sound so conspiratorialâŚ
That was very funny!!! ![]()
Cool!! That was half of the point!!
I feel sorry for Americans at this point, and I mean that sincerely and not to be patronising. Itâs a mess, and itâs not fair that you guys get dumped in it by the unwise actions of a tiny few.
I apologise if anyone has said anything similar as I havenât read this whole thread, but hereâs a small story to put the scale into perspectiveâŚ
My wife has visited China a few times for work, and these visits were to large factories/plants where electronics are made by their business partners. She went to these factories that are hours outside the nearest large city. She told me that she shared taxis back and forth from the hotel (in the city) to the factories with her colleagues. They travelled for more than 2 hours in each direction down major highways, and she said itâs basically residential high rise and factories lining the highway on both sides, the scale of which she has never seen before. Just factories and residential for the workers, as far as the eye can see.
The US government has picked a fight they canât possibly win. If the Chinese didnât build another factory from today and the US had 50 years to catch up, they still wouldnât get close.
Also, the work ethic is completely different. Hundreds of millions of people, many of whom work 12 hours a day 6 days a week. Iâm not saying I support that as a way of life, just that Americans wouldnât do it any more than the British would.
Thatâs not really a fair comparison though, the Chinese are able to pivot into what is important to them very fast and put as much resources in it as they want. A function of being a dictatorship⌠America is totally different and we donât need to compete with them at manufacturing because like I said, in a few short years automation will be able to manufacturer anything you want basically for free, pennies on the dollar. All that infostructure will be for nothing as they will only need 1% of the work force. That is all a relic of what it took for China to get there.
The real question is how both countries will compete for power and profit in a world where things can be made for almost nothing and the top 10% in both countries will be able to amass untold wealth and keep power when wealth will hold less and less importance to the mass of people.
I guess what Iâm saying is the real fight is how the ruling class will keep their power from the majority, not between China and America⌠that is the smoke screen.
I had a person tell me that we will soon have factories here in a couple of weeks! Ha!
How the hell can people be so numb to reality!
I recently ordered a Korg synth from Guitar Center, which was on back order, but I was in line to have it shipped on May 24. I just received a notice from Guitar Center which told me that the order was delayed indefinitely, and theyâd let me know when it comes in. I assume this means Korg is not sure how to respond to the tariffs? Are they delaying shipping any synths from China to here directly, so they can find a way to re-route them by completing assembly from somewhere else (e.g. Japan or Vietnam)?
I ordered it when I did hoping Iâd be able to get mine in whatever batch had already shipped since supposedly that meant the new tariffs wouldnât apply (same reason Iâve ordered an upgraded Mac, but then Trump waived Tariffs on Computers and phones).
Does anyone know if the latest exemption on computers, phones and other electronic devices applies to synths? I mean, they are essentially single-purpose computers.
And those forgetting whatâs required to build autonomous machines for production. Those parts have to come from somewhere.
So many details lost in the big lie.
Worst of all, as the admin seems to be backing away from all this mess, those same people will have moved on to the next thing without questioning why this happened.
Signal chat might be the reason.
Itâs the modus operandi. How the f does he keep getting away with crimes again and again and again? Is this real life? Did I die along time ago and none of this is real?
like Iâm running out of explanations at this point⌠![]()
You cant even break ground in two weeks! It takes months to get through all the regulations!
People are so brain washed itâs scary!
This thread is proof things are serious, first @HoldMyBeer made a serious post a while back, and now even @Kegeratorz is paying attention to things that are happpening in the world!!!
Whistling
Thereâs hope (regarding the latter, because the fact hold my beer is acting serious has the opposite effect
)
Whataboutism is one of the ways.
Partner mentioned a few months ago that a US-based someone on a work-related Slack had posted that they needed to get their roof redone, and their father had said, âWait six months and itâll be cheaper because of tariffs.â Itâs like a magic wand.
Laughing at a person saying factories are magically going to appear in a few weeks is far from paying attention to the world!
Just an observation of how fucking stupid people can be when they blindly follow their beliefs!
Just take the W, no need to ruin it with details ![]()
Regardless, youâre now more aware of the world today and for that I applaud the gods and the druids, for it is thanks to them @Kegeratorz has crossed paths with a nugget of knowledge from the outside world. ![]()
