Why is this forum down so often?

It’s the noise servers make when someone kicks them in the gonads.

Its directly proprtional to the amount of threads I mute.

More mutes, more this forum goes down.

Now, that made me feel very very guilty.

Still seems to be struggling, a few threads don’t want to work.

Elektron hinting at us to get out into the world and have a real social life?! :fearful:

Do the mods have any clue about what is happening to the servers or are we all equally in the dark here?

Nah they’re just shit threads.

I say we take off, nuke the entire site from orbit. It’s the only way to be sure.

(I do actually like this forum. Without it I would have given up making music years ago)

Wonder if this has anything to do with it.

(Sorry, that’s a german joke  Some small towns which are some kinda health resort have the prefix „Bad“ and town signs in Germany look like this)

There’s not so many reasons a site goes down this way. Either high load from users during product launches etc. or DoS/DDoS. Not sure whether anyone official would admit the latter.

Edit: For sure a server could be hardened against both, but that’s most likely a matter of infrastructure, resources, knowledge, investment and priorities.

Probably not with the submarine cables themselves. While the bandwidth of some routes may be slightly limited due to this incident, and Elektronauts seems to be indeed hosted in Sweden, internet routes are redundant. (So traffic can take alternative routes).

But looking in the wider global situation and recent news there could be a relation. Over the weekend I noticed another couple websites I use being down. DDoS and other attacks are getting cheaper to run and some groups are being let loose, so whatever you can disrupt or train your skills on is a good target (doesn’t necessarily seem to matter that you can’t extract real value from the target).

But then again it could just be a regular maintenance (OS or database upgrade) gone wrong, or exceptional but legit traffic … and have nothing to do with what’s happening elsewhere.

I almost was leaving bed too, thankfully servers are back up.

Guys whats up with those servers? Scale for max load…

Hi!

Very sorry about the downtime. We will be moving to a much better infrastructure that will mitigate the risk of downtime considerably. This will also allow us to update to a new version of Discourse to give you guys more nifty features and better security. But for this particular error we’ve taken intermediate measures for a crash not to happen in the foreseeable future.

Sometimes I think I might be contributing to this with dozens of Elektronauts tabs opened across the workspaces in the browser and reloading multiple of them from time to time.

I am guilty of this myself, monitoring several threads.

Discource 3.2 seem to adopt the AI plugin, I’m not sure what’s Elektron’s stance on this but for me personally (and pretty sure many others) this would be an issue, so just wanted to ask what version are you planning to update to and will it include the Discource AI plugin?

If it would be containing that, I‘ll resign from here.

Glad to hear they are changing servers. This site obviously became pretty huge.
