Why I returned my Analog Rytm

The DRM1 has been mentioned a few times in this thread now, but after reading the manual, I honestly don’t see in what way it provides more variety as the number of parameters are just as, if not more, limited.
Would you care to explain how it provides more variety?

Yes there is a similar number of parameters but those parameters have a more extreme effect on the sound.
The raw oscillators on the DRM are quite a lot more harmonic than the Rytm not to mention full mid range which the Rytm doesn’t seem to have an abundance of.
I have both. I thought I might sell the DRM when I got the Rytm but they are both so different.
When I switch the effects off on the AK and the Rytm what I am left with is probably the weakest sounding analog synths in my studio. Certainly still nice tho. I don’t think some people realise just how much the digital side does for the Elektron analog gear.
Haven’t got round to running the DRM through my AK effects yet but I believe magic awaits.

I pretty much agree with all of this. I never gel’d with the hats on the DRM but it was way better, in my opinion, in the sound sculpting dept. I really remember liking the kick, and the perc (I think. Whichever did some klangy stuff) The DRM with sampling and the Elektron sequencer would probably smoke the RYTM!!
I find the MFB Tanzbar videos to sound cool. I’ve not played one yet. I’d love to though. Looks fun. More like a drum machine you play then one you program. . . if that makes sense.
The TR-8 through a compressor sounded fantastic!! Again, my opinion, but for a digital machine it had some umf to it. I didn’t touch the RYTM for a month when I had one on loan.
If Elektron will just open this thing up a bit more we will probably be able to get a larger range of sounds!

That is the nature of the Rytm. Each machine has varied choices/limitations to work with. Which may or will be expanded in the future. A great selling point.

But the DRM for example sounds way more open and ‘in your face’ than elektron gear. Same goes for the Mono Lancet, which sounds far more pleasing and open than the AK. Must be something to with the amplifiers or Overdrive circuit etc on Elektron gear that flattens the sound slightly. On the positive side, Elektron gear rarely needs compression or taming etc
