Whimsical Raps Atrium

It’s been a long time coming, and looks like nothing else:

https://atrium.whimsicalraps.com/

five voices of analogue synthesis, controlled and modulated polytimbrally . we’ve taken ideas from our decade of modular exploration, and rethought how we reach into polyphony.
each voice is shaped by its harmonic energy while three core timbre modes push into richer territory. from simple suboctave and noise waves , through frequency modulation , and landing in formant synthesis reimagined. all squeezed through a lowpass/gate combination, providing balance and occasionally emphasis.
no digital multi-effects here, just spectres in the machine. a novel configuration of three filters, two delays, and feedback. front and almost centre — this resonant body is meant to be played. sequenceable, modulatable, while feeding back not just sound, but shape for unfolding cybernetics.
and to modulate! everything mappable to everything else, tactile input extended on the fly, mapping as a performance in itself. sources are dynamically phased across voices, and stretched in relative duration. gestures captured into five recorders, extending play rather than overriding it, all twisted in time at your whim.

$1600 and available from 31 October 2025.

I love this, but also looks it will need a commitment to learning it well enough to do it justice. Not sure I have the bandwidth right now, but definitely interested in learning more.

This thing looks ready for a Zoolander walk-off with the Clank Uranograph!

This looks cool. Probably one of the most unique instruments I have seen in a while. I have owned most of the Whimsical Raps modules in the past, and they are a solid company.

Why does this sound so incredible?

Dream synth

These are the kind of features I’m trying to articulate when I ramble in the request threads. Incredible

Looks like a dog’s dinner.

Could sound like my dreams and I’d still fucking hate it.

Bold look. Would work in a Star Trek episode.
And sounds nice. But personally the lights… there’s a line I don’t cross friends  Too much light… I can see a migraine coming already lol

I don’t know… if the instrument relies on recording gestures on omnichord-like ribbons, it could make sense.

WTF?!
When you think you’ve seen it all.
Can’t sneak that one into the studio unnoticed. But i might try… :sunglasses:

Yeah, it’s really not obvious to me how you’d play this just based on that clip. But I’m all for electronic instruments that are constructed as instruments as opposed to a box with some knobs on or attached to 37 keys. Flip side is that going this way means you have to factor in a lot of practice to get a handle on it. Anyway, sure this is going to be great for anyone who commits to it based on these guys’ track record.

I wish I was a millionaire, this would be an awesome device to let my kids use to get them more interested in music

Seems like left side is kind of a chordal quantizer right side has the main gate to let it drone but perhaps other ways to gate the signals also… seems that it also has midi if you want to go a bit more traditional in how you play it.

I am definitely thinking of trying to jump in… looks way more interesting than a few of the other oddly shaped synths to me. WR did something with Meng Qi that looked quite odd, and the soma Tera, that thing from Clank. I dunno, nice to see companies playing with these sorts of ideas though.

I thought this was going to be a thread where someone had created a safe space to post all your favorite MC Paul Barman and Afroman songs and videos.

Is disapoint

looks fun and unique but steep learning curve. Maybe in retirement as I have enough gear to keep busy with my limited time outside of work.

Do we know if this a one batch thing or it will be available like a “normal” product ?

I want to buy one but I won’t be able to the 31 October but I will by January 2026. FOMO haha

And also how much for Europe market with the euro convertion, plus taxes and shipment ?

I’m glad there’s mixed opinions here because I’m clearing up my Friday at that time to refresh the buy page lol
