so i think boris brejcha is all in the box with no hardware - anybody else?
Probably 90% of the dance music you find on beatport
telephone tel aviv, autechre (recent stuff), pretty much every dub stepist, there’s some interviews of artists I forgot the names of in Telekom youtube that itb completely, also a lot of four tet is itb too if I remember correctly
I didn’t know him until just now. Unfortunately, a quick search on YouTube changed that. For me, it’s an incredibly boring elevator business techno sound.
Richie Hawtin uses DAWs, as do Paul Kalkbrenner, Aril Brikha, Yello, Robert Henke (Monolake)
Plaid have been all itb for the past few albums (yet always incredible), Rezz, Deathpact and most other mid-tempo, dubstep, edm producers are all itb (mainly ableton with serum).
Loscil
You remembered correctly about Four Tet. Makes songs using his laptop speakers (before mixing and mastering on proper speakers, I think). He also admits he uses a lot of presets
like this
and this
also this
ha!
yes, clever bastard old 4tet
that modular rig makes me want to hulk smash…
funny, I don’t like this music for the same reason, sounds so boring, sure it has sound design and all but everything just sounds the same, “is it another track? really?”, everything goes from drop to drop, literally a template both structure and sounds, but when reading comments on his videos like
- The Mozart of Techno Music
- Once you have discovered Boris Brejcha, everything else pales in comparison!
etc. I start questioning my sanity, how people not getting bored by this stuff? I don’t get it…
btw nothing against Boris, the man doing whatever he likes, I just generally wonder how listeners are not bored to death listening for two hours straight of the same thing…
Finally someone! You are not alone!
back on topic, I’ve found these couple of videos I really liked regardless of the genres, itb artists
The other day I saw that exact comment “The Mozart of Techno Music” and I remembered George Carlin’s words that life is worth losing!
Yes, back to topic. I guess it would be easier to say which pro electric music producers use hardware; imo software dominates
Ae bros still use hw sometimes, i mean Rob does
innit bruv
I remember from Sean’s twitch qa he said they reduced hardware to zero, only having controllers and building everything in Max
oh and by the way, @Fin25 itb only
He also admitted to not being entirely sure how Rob makes a lot of the sounds he sends over and suspects there’s a fair bit of hardware used as sound/sample sources.
I think the gist is that Rob is probably still using a bit of hardware in the studio, but only using laptop/controllers for arranging/performing.
I remember him saying for himself and for the live shows but mentioned something a bit diff for Rob iirc. He also said that DekDre Scap B track from album Plus got its name from Deckard’s Dream.
