To be frank SM, I’m not that impressed by the OT Filter, perhaps I’ve been spoilt by Moog filters, notwithstanding the Minitaur which as a result will be passed on to a new home but it’s character and this includes the A4 are more or less simply a subtraction, stale and a bit coarse, typical digital filters. I find to get a somewhat useable sound I need to crank on the filter overdrive and I’m aware that that is the secret to Moog filters but I’m just not feeling it even though the A4’s filter is analog.
However I do agree with you regarding the Comb Filter, this too is my secret weapon but I’m open to new techniques with the Comb Filter. Bring the tutorial.
I totally agree with the filter. There is a lot of stepping and it can’t quite cut the mustard, but seeing as I have only analog filters on all my synths its not a big deal, and the filter works well enough for the things I use it for.
The comb is indeed nice, I use it every now and then to add some overtones to my juno.
The characteristics of any filter is so subjective and I think any way once identified working within those parameters is made easier. That is if you know it sounds harsh you would try and naturalize the sound by softening the input. Like Anigbrowl has suggested putting lofi pre filter. Sometimes harshness is just what you want though like with metallic leads or something.
+1 for dark reverb and filter
Hope they continue to put new effects into the OS updates
The filter and moreso the filter distortion on the OT is just so sweet. When I play live, I’m riding the filter with the fader about 90% of the time and (with practice) it really contributes to the dynamics and interactivity of the track.
Love the Dark Reverb for my ambient-oriented work. Some of these days I’m going to use a neighbor machine to chain this reverb with delay.
I own a Moog Voyager and love its filter, but I dig the OT filter too, especially for playback of randomly locked slices, with LFOs modulating filter settings.
I also like using LoFi for the ring mod and distortion. Haven’t gotten into the bit rate or sample rate reduction aspects.
As I have only owned the Octatrack for a few hours I’m not really best placed to comment, but I was extremely impressed with the effect I was getting with the chorus on a looped vocal. Quite a unique sound unlike any of the vst choruses I own
I recently found that the chorus works really well in combination with a triangle LFO making vibrato on the sample. Here’s an example where there’s vibrato and chorus on the harp sample:

Yeah chorus owns!
Lyra 8 through the OT phaser sounds amazing
