Where to place LED-strip for best looking videos?

So I just bought a 3 meter long led strip with a lot of different effect programs and a large variety of colors to choose from. I would love some advice on where to place the led strip for best effect and best looking videos of upcoming jams. Anyone here with an good eye for aesthetics in moving media :)? I usually record my jams with a Panasonic Lumix G7 from the first step on the shelf (left side in the pictures). But would like to step up the visuals a little…

This guys videos are a great inspiration. I’m looking for that 80’s kind of feel if possible.

place them on portable stands and move them around as needed. small aluminium strips mounted to some stable pedestals should do the trick.

Thanks for the suggestion! That indeed sounds like the best way that would give me a lot of flexibility… But do you think it could be accomplished without cutting the cable into smaller pieces? I only have one power supply and i’ve read that some of the programs behaves strangely when the led is cut (because the programs doesn’t adapt to the new “center” of each strip)…

Is it a boutique analogue LED strip? ;p

It’s basically one of these  https://youtu.be/8taaBr7QtNk

You are in good company. I’ve got all kinds of goofy color changing LED stuff in my studio, haha. At least it seems you are looking to make sense of it. I’ve just got random disco lights shoved into the nooks and crannies : )

Haha nice one  Yeah, I’m trying to find some kind of theme on future uploads that makes them a little more visually recognizable… But we will have to see if someone could help me with some aesthetic advice.

How flexible is the cable? I agree that lighting the stands would be a good way to go. If there were a way to maybe warm up the strip w/o damaging to make the plastic more malleable maybe it would make it so it doesn’t need cut–I’d be apprehensive to cut it as well. You might be able to “biff it” a little in some places where people might not be able to see (because of gear placement or whatever) that the strip is not running at exact angles (if you catch my meaning).

Its pretty flexible! Im not sure I follow. Do you think I should have the strip from below, lighting the keyboard stand?

Make sure you wipe down everything really good did this fell off the wall a week later no longer sticky tbh the walls were not that bad at all the sticker is kind of weak

not necessarily! if the strip illuminates in the wrong direction (in direction of the ceiling or onto the floor) you will end up with very diffuse light which may not be desired and which will be too dark (RGB Strips are usually very dark). There are connectors for the edges if your Strip is not so flexible. We had Strips in the edges around our Kitchen Floor - all the way through. These were IP65 so they withstand humidity. They had a special coating on top, so they were very rigid - no chance to paste them around edges. We cut the Strip and used these L-Connectors to get around. Worked perfectly and the RGB Illumination was awesome in the end! I see no reason why your Strip shouldnt work properly if cutted …

I see! Well the biggest concern is that i only have one power adapter. And the place i bought it from doesn’t sell only power adapters. So if I were to cut it into smaller strips I would need to find more power cables… Not if i just link them with L-connectors, but since the strip is flexibel enough I don’t need to cut them to get around corners. I was thinking about the aluminium list that you suggested. Perhaps i could do it somewhat flexibel placement wise if I bend an aluminium list to a U-shape (both sides/walls 50 cm and the top/ceiling 2 meters) and then tape the list on to the frame. Do you think that could be a good solution?

really depends on what you are aiming for mate  if you want to light your machines directly (similar to the guy in the Video you linked) make a small portable solution with these Aluminium Bars in U- or O-Form that you put on the table where your machines are (above the camera) - and if you want a permanent solution with more diffuse lighting, either paste these strips behind the table / Synth stands and let them illuminate upwards or paste them around the edges of your ceiling of the whole room (pointing downwards) to get a very diffuse lighting of the whole room you are working in.

LEDs are totally flexible. dont think so much mate, just try it out  use some adhesive tape (transparent) to paste it around in several locations without using the actual tape of the Strip in the first place. find the spot you are satisfied with and build the final solution

Happy New Year \o/

There are also other Solutions to get light.

Get a cheap LED RGB pars e.g.

or one of those cheap Ikea lamps and put a LED RGB lamp inside. Nice for Diffusion colored light.

Damn it! You just made me order the Stairville one… But thanks  It was a really good advice. I’ll put the ledstrip in the ceiling to function as a mood light. The Stairville will do the cool closeup effects!

Perfect! Thanks for the suggestions. I will try to find the most satisfying placement using adhesive tape to begin with. Didn’t think of the fact that i don’t need to use the m3 tape on the actual strip before I’m satisfied.
