hey, can someone recommend very good quality recorded percussion samples? So bongos, ethnic, conga, Japanese drums, etc. The only important thing is that they were professionally recorded. Mine just don’t sound good in rytm.
If you have a Mac or an iPad/iPhone, there are some great instruments in GarageBand. You could use/sample those.
there are commercial collections of these kinds of things…for some instruments you may have to hunt a bit…
there are also VST Sample Instruments

hope that helps
Yes, I also thought that the DAW is very well suited for this. Especially the contact plugin. But the thing is that I need good samples for the rytm. There are so many on the internet, but maybe someone has an idea for really well recorded samples. Even with 808 and 909 samples I find it quite difficult to find the decent one.
Samples from Mars
Samples from Mars is always good stuff. Have you looked at Musicradar’s 5 billion free sample library? They’ve got a pretty large amount of free stuff up for grabs.
…stop searching…
get a physical modeling synth like reasons object and get all the vibes and timbres ur dreaming of…
I buy a bunch of samples, constantly… it’s a fun way to spend money. And I have to say, even the worst samples I have still sound pretty good.
Did you mean you recorded them? Because if the samples don’t sound good, maybe some EQ’ing will beef them up.
thank’s for the Tipps. but that’s not what i’m looking for. how small the internet world is. Of course you know samples from Mars and also the other stuff. besides, samples fom mars don’t have any japan, africa, ethnic percussions? It’s about well-recorded samples for the rytm and without having to remove the lousy resonances with the eq beforehand, then I can record them myself. if there are samples (which I don’t like to use anyway), then with good quality and there are definitely differences
I’ll stick to designing interesting percussions myself with the rytm and the amp modulation.
I‘m also open for tips on where to get some good one shot samples of shakers!
Buy a shaker. Have recording chain. Shake!
Edit: once posted, I see that this sounds very snarky, but it was a serious suggestion
I find that programming good shakers is very hard, and unnecessarily so when it’s quite easy to record ones own. If samples are preferable, I would recommend loops instead of one-shots
The World Percussion sample set for the Beathawk ipad app sounds good, and seems to give a nice range of talking drums, djembe, various Indian drums, lots of gongs, etc… Presumably you’d resample them into whatever sample-playback instrument you use…
The World Percussion set is probably an additional purchase (in addition to the cost of Beathawk itself) but I don’t think it’s expensive. Beathawk also offers other sets with Indonesian gamelan instruments, European orchestral percussion, etc…
Confirmed, but very reasonably priced and good value, lots in there. But the fact that it’s locked inside the app is a hindrance, you’re really looking at picking a few samples for a specific project and re-sampling, I can’t see anyone having the time and patience to resample the whole lot, apply the right names, etc.
EDIT: But thanks for the reminder, I’d forgotten about it.
Yeah, I wasn’t suggesting that—just find 8 or 16 samples you need to build a kit, and resample them quick. It’s necessary to pick and choose even if you simply use the touch screen drum machine in the app itself; there’s an awful lot of content in there. When I went into the app I noticed I’d apparently built a kit of nothing but my favorite gongs…
samples from mars are good. also check the kount’s packs and goldbaby’s.
search through archive.org for free sources, too. here’s one.
if you have the addictive drums vst, there are a bunch of good percussion options.
If you have Native Instruments, West Africa is a good source for Bongo , Konga etc

yes, but i need good samples for the rytm
What do you mean with “good quality”. Pre proccesed? High samplerate? Sampled with quality mics and pre amps? With or without stereo/depth/reverb information or super dry?
My personal experience is most samples are fine but just doesn’t sound as the real thing once sequenced. Percussion (and shakers) need a lot of lfo or p locks mimicking attack, decay, finetune and velocity variations as real percussion instruments do.
Shimmer Shake Strike is an utterly amazing Kontakt instrument for all things shaker. I’ve owned the original since 2019 and just upgraded to version 2 with the expansion pack (taking advantage of an upgrade deal). Worth every penny:
