Oh certainly I can’t speak for all womankind, but there’s a reason why the original question in this post was asked and why the inequity exists. And there’s a reason why I tend to stick to women-only spaces for production, and there’s a reason why those exist. I am not the only one having this experience.
And the fact that there are women who feel like their experiences are problem-free, frankly, attests to how hard those who came before them fought for this to be the case. I’m almost 45 years old and have been making music since I was a teenager. I have some time in and some perspective on the world that some younger folks might not. Things HAVE changed, but not as much as you would probably like to think they have.
And as far as this forum goes, I think it’s pretty decent and CERTAINLY not the worst I have encountered. But some of the same behaviors are still repeated here (more the subtle stuff that you might not catch, but I do because I have seen it 349503845904850485 times before), and hey, we should never stop learning better humaning, right?
And the fact is, this forum being better or not, the disparity still exists, sexism continues to be a very real issue in the world generally and in music specifically, and debating with a woman with 30 years in the music game about whether or not that is true is, well, what’s that they say about being part of the problem and not part of the solution?
Even in the article it says it compares the median income of all men’s and women’s pay
straw man argument - how is she profiting?
You will note in one of my posts, I specifically addressed that sexism affects men, too. But women didn’t make and don’t control these systems, so…yeah.
What? Who profiting?
Agreed, things are still a long way off in general. Hopefully our kids will get closer than we have. I have 3 young daughters so nothing would make me happier.
Scroll up and read. I asked a question. You deflected it.
Once again though, I find myself having to argue whether or not sexism exists with a bunch of dudes, which is literally what happens 100% of the time.
So…enjoy talking amongst yourselves again. Later.
I’m not seeing a question that you directed at me? At least other than accusing me of a strawman and asking about how some woman is profiting?
I didn’t direct the question to you. It was directed to whomever.
You directed your deflection of it to me.
Scroll up. It’s all in the thread.
What deflection?
.
Hey Adam, I don’t think your article says what you think it says. I think it takes the average income of men vs women. It does not appear to have the right controls to hold for hours worked, type of work, degree, etc.
What he said
The article you posted says “median incomes” of all women and all men
I may have posted the incorrect link, as I was referring to the research done by Hegewisch & Hartmann, 2014
None the less, there is a pay gap within similar fields. This cannot be denied.
From the same, mistakenly linked report: Yes, median pay, but same occupation:
And my question stands. For the woman in the same field, being paid less, how does she profit?
This is not a rhetorical question.
Viva la Difference! (a quote regarding the fabulous differences between men and women, not referring to the 6% pay difference)
keep it real and keep it beautiful … and remember, all-caps is shouting.
A woman being paid less is not profiting. A man being paid more is not profiting. Let us not get caught in details nor devolution of thread yeah?
No one needs to ameliorate the situation, let’s have compassion and wisdom and not think in dualistic terms whatsoever nor follow paper trails of figures trying to calm some perceived upsettedness.
hey uh… not sure anything else needs to be said?
congratulations on chasing away literally the only person able and willing to speak on the topic tbh
There are many women on this forum, i think it is important to realise we all post freely without specifying our gender very often at all, man or woman, cis or non-cis.
