Update: upped my labeling game with some neon colored equipment tape. Should make it easier to find the right aux sends or EQs and what not.
I’ve been thinking about making tracks for stock music libraries (to be licensed out to commercials, video production, etc.) Has anyone had success with this?
Here’s the setup I brought out to my last 2 shows (flyers below)
*edit: minus the Sherman, which I didn’t bring.
Tanzbär sequenzer maxed out tekno setup a.k.a getting too old for screens. Tanzbärs quirky cv sequencer manual printed out in big letters not on photo.
No, just for photo and trying out a bit. Don‘t have mixer, enough cables etc ( and a camping table or similar) there, and will mostly sequence p 23 with elektrons of course.
It’s a very big rig, for my (amateur) standards. I’m sure you know what you’re doing, how do you approach keeping track of this all live?
Looks like a nice lineup, the top flyer!
Did you record your set?
Engine sequencer with program changes. I have a process I’ve been tweaking for the last few years with it, but had started all the material from scratch for these sets.
There’s a recording from The Great Beyond, but I don’t have it yet. The Communion set was longer (90 mins), and imo better, and I may be putting that up somewhere in a bit.
let us know when you do
i would buy that thing in a heartbeat if i was able to get better hat & snare sounds out of it. the bass and kicks are so good on the M:C though
I dont have M:C, but I haven’t heard any hats / snares I like on DN yet either. Is it an FM thing? An Elektron FM thing? A matter of taste of course. DN also does absolutely killer kicks & bass
maybe it could be an FM thing. I’m not familiar with the DN’s sounds tbh. My main issue with M:C is the hats/snare fall into a pretty narrow range. in the M:C only music thread, those elements on most tracks sound the same.
I hate most snares, in fairness
My latest techno setup is giving me a hard-on. I’m using the Dude to mix between the Swarm and Liquid Foam, which then feeds into the BIM, then back into AR’s stereo inputs. The AR compressor holds it all together. It sounds gnarly, squelchy, and crunchy - but feels wickedly funky. A dream come true for live performance.
Let’s hear it!
I’ll try and record something next chance I get…
Super nice, it has some proper bounce.
Still happy with the Liquid Foam & the Swarm both into the Rytm, after playing them live? I guess you could do one less and use a Rytm track for melodic stuff, but this was nicer eh?
I should try out the Rytm inputs / compressor some time.
PS those kicks sound really good, just the right amount of punch vs bass decay, they sound really juicy
Thanks for the kind comments. This is my first attempt at a live performance.
Yes, I’m happy with both synths at the moment. The Swarm I’m picking up quicker than the Liquid Foam; the mix probably reflects that. On a few occasions, I’ve had the Liquid Foam sounding phenomenal, but that was purely by chance. A little more practice is all I think is needed.
The AR compressor is valuable but very sensitive. You’ve got to dial that threshold back when using it. I’m also using the lowest ratio, so the pumping isn’t too extreme.
For the kick, I’m using one of the sounds that came with the AR, with a touch of editing.
Sounds awesome, congrats.
