Not exactly sure what my intentions are yet, but so far in my first few hours with the cric, it’s proving to be an absolute joy to sit around and play with. Not going to lie, at first I was a little suspicious that physical pins would be enjoyable, and it took a little time to familiarize myself with the matrix, but I’m going to have a lot of fun with this!
My Neumann MT-48 began losing sensitivity in the volume dial so I’ve been looking for a spare to replace it while it’s in for warranty repair. It turns out that Focusrite 16i16 has nearly the same functionality and I/O set, obviously apart from the touch screen and onboard FX. The 16i16 seems to work as expected and It will serve as a 6 channel ADAT expander for a satellite setup in a different part of the room where my eurorack case lives. The 16i16 is larger and heavier, definitely made for a small desktop setup, while the neumann is light and extremely sturdy. The Neumann also has a microphone mount and it is a complete interface if you need something mobile to record something acoustic like a small church or yourself. The price I paid still stings when the Focusrite is so cheap in comparison.
A cheap digital piano with hammer action popped up nearby. No more excuses, 2 hands playing, here I come! There is also room for digitone up there for future explorations
I’ve found that no matter the situation, there is always room for a Digitone!
Wot no risky business
We still doing alright Solida? No speeding tickets? No happy accidents?
No PolyMoogs turning to dust in our fingers after the cash exchange has already taken place?
I ordered this cheap recorder - Sangean DAR 101. Was like $100.
I was hunting around for a while for a desktop recorder, something that could kinda just go on my coffee table, but have controls that were a bit more ergonomically similar to an old cassette recorder.
This was the only real thing I could find that had a speaker, it’s got a tilt backlit screen, and a few other bells and whistles. Mostly I just want it for recording guitar or other acoustic instruments.
But I just wanted it to sort of be there, it’s a living room recorder that never really moves. I didn’t want one of those precious $500+ handy recorders I could drop or knock off a table onto the floor.
See how it goes when it arrives this week, it’s not supposed to be anything special, just to capture riffs at a moments notice.
Glad to see we are all invested in this once-in-a-lifetime journey. Honestly looking forwards to the conclusion, and to the size of the eventual repair bill.
Who doesn’t like a good adventure without having to leave home and on someone else’s dime?
Interesting, I just looked and it says that this recorder has phone answering capabilities. I wonder how that works? I didn’t look too closely but maybe you can also use it as a bluetooth speaker.
I like the vaguely mid 90’s Sony vibe.
Yeah, it has some ins and outs. I think the phone thing is more of an old school desktop phone with a standard telephone socket plug. It’s not a feature I’d personally use, but it’s intention is teleconferencing recording capability.
Yeah, you need a socket plug adapter for it. Could be fun haha. It’s just .mp3 format though.
Pork chops. I think I might cook them.
Or wear them as earmuffs.
I vote earmuffs. Post those pics.
I’m currently on vacation in France right now, but here’s a quick pic I had someone take of me. The sun’s out, but it’s a bit chilly, so I am grateful for the pork chop earmuffs.
