What's your latest purchase & what are your intentions with it? [pics ftw] (Part 3)

It’s my duty as a library worker to remind you that you can get ebooks from most library systems these days in addition to physical ones.

Would you believe I still haven’t set it up yet?

I do actually want a stand like that as a general bit of extra real estate for gear. I feel like all the cables coming off the mixer probably makes a wheeled stand redundant.

But the mixer is going to go on the side of the desk (I have two desks side by side so this is in the centre and in easy reach from each desk) in front of the 6u rack with patchbay. So all the gear goes into the back of the patchbay and is normalled into the mixer channels.

It’s pretty good in theory, just had no time to put it all together. Well, I’ve done all the audio and midi cabling, just need to run all the power cables now.

Novation Launchkey Mk4 49 key version. Intention: physical transport controls to start/stop/rec Ableton, keys, faders.

I’m actually very surprised by how deep it’s Ableton integration is!

You can easily switch the encoders between fx sends, plug-in mode to control any plug-in parameter (getting visual feedback on the small display which encoder controls what); easy to move around the different tracks and use the faders; and even a step sequencer that doesn’t just send out midi sequences to Ableton but that directly inputs them as Ableton sequence. All intended to come to grips with Ableton a bit better via its physical controls, even if using Live mostly as simple two or four track recorder.

For the first time ever, I’ve repurchased an instrument I previously owned. I traded away my Perfourmer MkII a few months ago, but have been regretting it ever since. An incredible Black Friday deal presented itself a few weeks back so I corrected my mistake. Lovely to have it back in my studio…

Since I’m participating in #NoGear2025, I technically still had until the end of the year to raid my (thin) wallet. Kali Audio LP-8 2nd Wave, Black | Gear4music

The scrub wheel to get around arrangement view, is also an excellent feature. Worth buying, just for that!

Just tried a quick Google but couldn’t find it - what’s the scrub wheel feature?

https://youtu.be/zL0KKYMXCIs?si=w6h6dJomWX6EMFN5 at 6:24 onwards talks about the arrangement view controls.

Ah I understand what you mean ja, scrubbing/scrolling/zooming through arrangement view looks to be so much nicer this way!

Got myself a nice Buzz Rickson Peacoat on the way

I amassed four different Midi Solutions boxes to resolve routing problems over the years.
Today three of them were replaced by the Blokas Midi Hub (the fourth wasn’t in use).

This thing is absolutely awesome, I love its programming capabilities and form factor. And it only costs half of the other four combined. Wish I had learned about it earlier. Only (minor) downside is it needs its own power supply.

Because everyone cool I know plays guitar and looks down on me.

But really: to learn something new and NOT synthy and to use in sound design
