As the title says…
why is there even an option to save the pattern if it automatically saves when you switch to another pattern?
clearly im missing another reason for this so please explain, thanks
to my understanding there is no difference between manually saving a pattern when you go to FUNC + SCNE or just switching to another pattern and it saves itself anyway?
The Pattern save feature is a temporary save for making live edits or work-in-progress edits safer. It’s a dedicated extra pattern cache. It’s not “save this pattern to disk for future use”. It’s what you need to do in order for Reload Pattern to work.
Actually, on re-reading, maybe it’s not a separate cache; maybe it does save to the current working project as implied by the button labells. But it’s clear from the manual that it was designed as “live rescue” or “live reset”.
If I’m working on a pattern and then I save it/ then I keep tweaking it, when I move to another pattern, it automatically saves my tweaks , but if I go back to that pattern and click reload, it will still maintain me reload the pattern I manually saved?
Had to pull out my Rytm to test this but the answer to your question appears to be no.
If you manually save your pattern, tweak some things, then navigate away and come back, your tweaked version is there and you are not able to reload the manually saved version. It seems that the automatic save upon pattern change overwrites the manual save.
This is actually not what I was expecting, and it’s different than how temp save works on the Digi boxes, so definitely a good thing to keep in mind. If you’re working on a pattern, be careful about when you choose to navigate away from it, because you’re saving your pattern and overwriting your manual save when you do so.
Ah this kinda makes sense. If you manually save something you can reload it while you’re still active within the pattern, but once you move to another pattern, the auto saved pattern is overwriting the manually saved one?
I believe the proper way to think about it is that there is only one save / reload buffer. Therefore it’s not possible to have different reloads ready to go on multiple patterns. And to simplify things, the buffer simply resets / gets fed with the current pattern on each pattern change / load.
