Whats the Most Interesting Synth(standalone)

From all the synthesizers you’ve owned which one do you consider to be the most interesting from sound exploration. Like the one which never ever gets boring because it gives you something new every time you turn it on?

Software: NI Absynth or XILS 3.

I owned many “cheap” synth and all get me bored quickly. Maybe the one I kept the most was the Nord Lead 2X. Anyway, now the kind of synth that still not bored me is the single cycle waveform from Digitakt. I feel sampling and resampling give you lot more sound exploration than synth.

I really need to throw some single cycles in my OT.

Software: Tardigrain with field recordings

I have never had one, but I have a feeling after reading a few Richard Devine interviews that the ARP 2600 is a marvel of sound exploration. The Korg MS-20 seems almost bottomless too.

Regarding synths that i possess, I’d say the Digitone is a freaking goldmine on the hardware side, and Pigments and Reaktor Blocks are amazing on the software side.

Two Voice Pro or Deckards I’d say. Even the more vanilla sounds are so lovely that I can lose hours on either.

Yeah Reaktor is too great.

Oh yeah, I’m not even considering exploring the full Reaktor, very intimidated by its scope.

For the synths I’ve owned, Digitone and Lyra 8, for very different reasons.
The Digitone is a sound design dream machine.
The Lyra is just amazing, total trip to use every time.

Of synths I don’t or haven’t owned, I’ve always really wanted one of the big Waldorf synths from the 90’s, they seem really interesting.

This right here. I love my Digitone and I’ve made some really cool sounds with it so far, but sound exploration with my DT/OT has been such a trip. Sampling DN and taking the sound further for example. Or just as you were saying, exploration of single cycle waveforms and resampling until it’s not even recognizable is sooo much fun!

Software wise: Bitwig GRID

Although it has issues, the Blofeld is an incredible sound designer playground I keep coming back to. It can do pretty much anything. I also enjoy the Digitone.

Nord G2.

I totally agree. It’s a synth that keeps on delivering, despite its apparent simplicity. Extremely well designed, and soundwise it’s a workhorse that brings you to incredible territories.
I also own an OB-6, a Peak, a MnM, an OP-1 and an A4, which I all love for different reasons, but DN wins in my heart. I have started to sample it to play drums on a sampler besides it.

Argon8 also takes me down unexpected avenues every time I start trying to patch design

Complexity is key…the harder the synth is to understand the longer it keeps my interest…

Virus TI snow takes me to school every day since 2008…

And a weird response I know, but the Roland jv1080 surprises me still to this day…

Each due to thier complex architecture and vast potential of sound.

Monomachine still bring me to unexpected results, and a fresh built 4MS SWN is giving me quite a lot of paths to follow and explore.
