For versatility and simplicity (as well as sounding damn good), the Nord Lead A1 may be worth considering.

What do you mean with melodies? Simple sounds? Lead sounds?
No synth does melodies. You do the melodies… or a sequencer with some kind of pattern generation…

How about a take five. As opposed to a mono synth that you can trick into paraphony, it’d also do poly stuff, but sounds to me like it might do great leads as well

budget friendly option:
Korg minilogue (I just got one)
Does nice plucky sounds, doesn’t sound too harsh. Knob per function. Polyphonic (which I think is still often necessary for melodies). Just enough option too keep you interested, but not enough to be boring.
