What's next for Elektron? (Part 1)

I agree, it has a lot of potential, and I guess that’s why Elektron would want to improve in this area.

I personally would not mind having a larger screen, i am 46 years old - and need glasses when the screen is very tiny. The amount of information with say 8 controls per page is easy readable, and a good concept. What i meant, was that i like the jog wheel and buttons !! in addition to the larger screen of the mpc. I had particular problems to figure out if the Octatrack was recording, because that symbol was so small on screen, which made it hard to read - i would have been ok with an extra LED telling me, which input is recorded to which record buffer. I like the screen of the digitone a lot more than on the A4 - which is still use regularly. From a design point, i would hope that the user feedback for more complex devices would be improved.
2x OLED screen - 1x for sound editing + 1x for mixer /performance controls would be dope. Maybe extra performance /level controls so no A/B switching is needed. I know there are users which are quiet fast with this workflow. Having user configurable controls on the A4 is also a very good idea.

Or, when someone starts posting contradictory, incorrect and occasionally silly comments about things (not all Elektron, either), they might have their more trolly behaviour pointed out to them. No big deal, no one being silenced here…

Also, it inspired quite a lot of debate, so clearly lots of room here…

Someone coming on here and calling the Octatrack accidentally unique or the Digitone unusable must know the response they’re going to get. Which is kinda what trolling is, no?

47 new posts for this thread on a short period of time, I thought Elektron had released something new … Model:Echo.

Whatever they do, I hope they keep it to either MK1, or Digi size. Those two are just perfect. The Models would be better served if they cut that top 2 or so inches off, but I understand it’s most likely there to make room for components.

Well, not really. It looks all flashy and advanced but when used seriously there are just too many bugs and unpolished features. And with each update something breaks which worked before. Doesn’t seem really solid.

I moved away from Akai to Elektron: stable, great features, good UI and integration and superb stand-alone. Less features but way better implemented.

I really, really hope they are not following Akai to “reinvent themselves”. Sometimes, changes don’t have to be so radical.

Haha yeah I guess that’s a definition of trolling, but I don’t think the intention was to be trolly. I’m just happy for the engaged discussion

I had to RMA an Analog 4 which had a faulty mainboard, and i had years of crashing analog rythm - when connected to overbridge, sometimes the unit crashed unexpectedly. The digitone also had a crash recently.

The forum has quiete a lot of posts about the RYTM at least, its possibly fixed since the last firmware upgrade.

So - i still love the elektron stuff, even with its problems it sounds good. My impression with Akai is that they dont rush features either, they do beta periods for extended times, and they dont want to troll their user base. The code base is improved, and for sure there will be a future generation, where they could build on that code when the new chips arrive. Even Apple had to do it - it also shows how capable the underlying audio system on linux is. For me it has been a stable experience, but i might not use extended features, as i mostly sample and sequence, and do not use much of their build in FX.

I think they’ve went into this screed before, I remember hearing the same “Mother Elektron” seething.

The problem isn’t that it’s kneejerk and contradictory so much as the criticism is always boring.

I sgree - same info but on a 2x bigger screen

Did Access ever get the TI’s M$ drivers working? How’s it in 2021?

And didn’t the shift to software-controlled hardware or too much reliance on a PC cause big problems for several innovative companies? Waldorf AFB16, TC Powercore, Creamware, Use Audio, Muse Receptor, SM Pro, Open Labs Neko/DBeat, etc?

I suppose that now it’s easier to integrate hardware with a computer. The MPCs do it pretty well (but still no dedicated low-latency multi-channel drivers), and Roland seem to be headed that way with the MV-1 and ZenBeats.

Anybody else get shivers when Overbridge was announced years ago?

You make a strong argument.

Yes. Right after I get my Digiphys though. I need pages of parameters and LFO destinations please.

Dreaming of a Model:Grains, so I made a quick mock up.

Samples + a stereo input for live granular effects. At least 2 LFO’s per track. As many voices and grains as possible.

Just fun wishful thinking, not that well thought out. Perhaps it would work better in a digi-box interface-wise but i really do love the Model’s knob per function. :sunglasses:

Elektron delay pedal - I’ve used Analog Four MKI for a few years. I route my Prophet 08 through the A4 to add A4’s delay to it. I’ve tried quite a few digital and analog delays and nothing beats A4’s so far. It doesn’t dissolve in bigger reverbs, but at the same time it’s not too aggressive and obtrusive like some analog delays and analog-emulations tend to be. So, if Elektron would take that delay with exactly these features and port it into some sort of a pedal…

What about this as a combo…

Digitakt/Model format (x8 note polyphony etc) with an implementation of Mutable Plaits Macro Oscillators (Dual OSC, FM, Perc, WT, Noise & Drums) with Digitone x4 part multi timbral (mix’n’match OSC’s)

The DigiPlaits + Model:Plaits

That would probably be a fun instrument too!

My first thought when reading your idea was that it would be pretty easy to prototype this with Drambo and Spectrum (Plaits port on iPad).

My second thought was I could do exactly the same with Drambo and Quanta to get a taste of my Model:Grains. Will be my corona-lockdown weekend activity! :upside_down_face:

I like this a lot! And the mockup too :star_struck:. There is a lack of hardware granulars with depth and range… and the input would be essential

Next Elektron Flagship : a Digisomething, 8 tracks, you receive it with some generic virtual analog firmware in it but actually you can create your own firmwares with some Max’like visual programming on computer. Everybody can share their firmware and adapt to taste

I’d like to see elektrons take on an mpc live sorta thing, as in elektron step sequencer but with a linear sequencer on screen too for writing full tunes (not touch screen per say).

that kinda thing with elektrons hi end fx n synth / sample engines + on the fly modulation & manipulation would be interesting.
