I was originally planning on reclaiming a Push 2 and a Kontrol s25 controller just to have everything automatically mapped for my Ableton and Komplete software that I’m finally starting to get into.
But the Push 2 is so big for what I need from it, and I don’t really need the keys/key functions of the Kontrol. So ideally it would be awesome if I can just have one piece of knobby/pagey equipment that I could control all my ITB parameters from. I’m tying to get into the mouse and keyboard method for sound design, but I find it irritating
I use Push 2 and a small midi keyboard with obviously perfect integration with Ableton.
I had a Komplete Kontrol keyboard which was great but mainly designed to control NI plugins. Can be setup for general daw control but not ideal as far as I know i.e. not very deep control? (didn’t try as daw controller when I had it)
The Akai Advance series could be a good all in one option?
I use Maschine Jam, and Ableton. There is a Maschine Jam for Ableton template that lets Jam control Ableton.
I plan on coupling it with the Digitakt as soon as they become available.
I’m wondering, since I’m going to be doing the sequencing of my DAW/VSTs through pyramid, I wonder if I’ll be able to more easily record parameter locks/automation into Pyramid? Maybe just a midi cable from my interface, back into Pyramid-maybe it can detect the initial CCs and turns of the knob from the controller…
If you don’t use the KK keys, my suggestion would be to use Push 2 and get Audiomodder’s Bridge for Push - this will essentially give you the KK mappings on the Push encoders.
I can’t imagine you’ll get better integration with Ableton and Komplete than that.
Thing is, if memory serves, the Kontrol S-Series didn’t work for Reaktor instruments, you reckon this would get me covered for most of NI instruments?
My understanding is that the Akai Advanced will work automatically for near every plug in. Which would be especially helpful if the ITB workflow works for me and I get Omnisphere at some point.
Thanks your suggestion! I’m definitely on the fence with this-as the Push would be undeniably helpful for what I want to do now and what I might like to do later on
Hard to not recommend Push 2 if you are using Ableton. 100% control.
I can honestly say it’s the most useful and productive piece of hardware I’ve ever purchased. Lot of people will disagree of course.
A bit OT but if you don’t have max4live, I definately recommend it also.
People think it’s complicated but not at all. No programming necessary as you can just download free devices and install direct in Ableton.
So powerful yet so simple
I use a Komplete Kontrol S61 and Push 2. You can load plugins within the Komplete Kontrol plugin and control the DAW with it (seamless integration within Cubase for instance). Live, obviously can be controlled easily with Push 2. I get the complaint about the footprint of the Push 2 though, it’s a bit big, no way I can fit all this on one desk without a shelf.
If I had to do it over again I’d probably just get a bigger desk or one that has a pull out keyboard shelf for the S61.
With both Live and Komplete, honestly, hard to top the controllers they developed themselves.
After careful consideration, I think your idea was the winner. That looks awesome! AND I don’t have to find a place for my maschine controller, either?!
Great to hear. I will be reunited with my Push 2 in a couple of months when I move back to Australia, and I just bought Komplete on sale over the weekend, so soon I’ll be rocking the same setup. Enjoy.
