What was your first piece of gear?

1997, Pc with turtle beach audio interface. 2013, First hw instrument I bought is the Machinedrum.

Juno 6! Sold it years later for a nice profit once software and boutiques came out. Really wanted to keep it for my ego, but with listeners not hearing a difference I decided to sell and invest in things that would help me mix better such as high end headphones.

When I first decided I wanted to make electronic music I went to the shop and got myself a used Korg DDD-1 with a conga cartridge and also got myself a used Korg DW-8000. I think I spent about $500 total. Those were the days, baby. I remember the sales guy at the shop telling me as he moved the one slider on the DW-8000 “you can almost get a 303 out of this thing!” - no, but nice sales pitch lol. Way back in 1997 or so.

Akai S2000, a total nightmare to work on, but at least you could make music.

If we’re talking first ever instrument then it was a recorder followed closely by an ocarina that my great uncle gave me, my first real piece of modern equipment was an m audio axiom 25 and a copy of reason… back in the early 2000s…

Midiman Radium 61 to control a “borrowed” version of Reason v1.0 on the family PC.

A few years ago, I finally gave it away on Kleinanzeigen for free, as the USB port was broken but the MIDI still worked.

I bought the S950 from frank martinique. I also bought an Atari from a second-hand store, an effects unit and a mackie VLZ.
Those were good times, I enjoyed them. Fortunately, they never came back
(The increase in happiness when making music with Elektron devices is remarkable. )

Ableton Push plus laptop. First synth was Moog Sub 37 which I still own and love.

TD-3 & Launchkey Mini for Ableton Live Light on my Mac Mini… first setup.

It was a very shaky start as I was a complete noob with the whole music thing coming from an art / design background.

My original silver TD-3 died within warranty and the refund went on my MicroFreak… then another TD-3 and everything else has just snowballed since.

lol literally the first music thing i ever had. i fondly remember my parents telling me to shutup and taking out the batteries :frowning: they never really liked me doing music anything. remember bringing the bass guitar home from music class in grade 8 and they refused to pay the deposit to loan it out for the year and i had to give it back. still makes me feel like shit to this day hahaha

anyways, a decade later i got this and never looked back. thank you TE for making something that sparked my interest so hard in elektron and music creation

its hilarious how similar it is to my childhood keyboard. probably some weird subconcious thing going on when i yearned for the op-1 when it was released

Korg X5. I still have it, even though the keybed is no longer fully functional. It is sitting up in the rafters of my garage at my cabin. I just can’t let it go and keep thinking sometime I will get it repaired. Whatever sounds it has, I am sure I have those sounds in my Korg TR-Rack, Kronos, Wavestate and Multi/Poly.

Maschine mk2, pretty much hated it. First synth was the Deepmind 12 desktop years later. Love for hardware synths sparked instantly with that one.
