…the only yamaha piece of gear i’ve ever had in use apart from their try on a rack sampler which was called a3000 if i remember correctly…now, speaking of it, i can’t remember where that sampler unit ended up…makes two pieces of gear, i have no idea where they are these days…my very first mpc and that a3000 rack sampler both vanished…
not missing in action…not stolen…just disapeared…
in case of the mpc, it still bothers me big time…of course…
but ooops…i also can’t remember what happened to that qy70 thingi…all i remember it was handy…somehow…at least for it’s time…
“live” these days means livestreaming, so it’s a but bulkier than I’d be able to do for an actual show but I do have a self-contained live setup that’s completely separate from the rest of my home studio, other than a MIDI connection that’s only used to start the OT transport in time with the DAW (OT is the master clock) and two stereo pairs for recording. Setup is:
Electric and acoustic guitars into an A/B switch, through some pretty unremarkable pedals and into OT A via a JHS Colourbox 2
early 90s Yamaha DTX drum brain wit three pads through an early 80s Yamaha flanger to the audio input on a Liven 8bit Warps
8bit Warps to OT B
DIY Kijimi controlled with a Linnstrument, mono out to a modded Boss CE300 rack chorus, stereo to a Lexicon Vortex, to OT C/D
Three thru mahcines (guitars, 8bit Warps/drums, Kijimi) with two pickup machines recording the Kijimi, two pickup mahcines recording the guitar and a third pickup machine recording the guitar but with a short loop time and LFOs modulating the direction and pan for live reverse-tape effects.
Morningstar MC6 for controlling the PUMs, Faderfox UC4 for mixing.
For actual live shows I have to stick with what I can carry, and usually that has been OT + Mutable Instruments Anushri + Casio CZ101 + some kind of effect pedal or desktop box that gets swapped out. It’s been a while, though, I’d already pivoted to mostly recording a couple years back as it was.
