What is your live setup?

This is where mine is at right now.
Some of this will change soon.
Adding a poly800 EX, vocoder, and eventually some other FX.
Probably getting rid of some FX too.
My computer just runs background sounds from Reaktor Metaphysical function. Also runs VDMX to a projector.

There is a old Motu Midi Express XT under the SlimPhatty.
Everything midi is connected to it.
The OT is the master.
The AR goes into the OT on inputs A B.
The SP, Microphone, and eventually the Poly 800 go to the mixer which has a send going to the OT on C D, this way I can sample whatever I send to it.
I will replace that funky mixer with a Zed10 soon, this will make sending to the OT a simple button press.
The cue outs of the OT go to an FX chain that includes the KP3, and KP mini, which is going to the mixer as well.

As for performing I try not to get too caught up in how little of a “player,” I seem to be. Currently I have 3 different pieces I am playing out with. Each can be 10-30 minutes worth of stuff depending on how I run through the material. Each set is kind of a different genre but meshes well with each other, but wildly different tempos. Some of the sets require more playing and live looping. Some of them are simply selecting different patterns and twiddling knob, FX and OT scenes/crossfader. It’s all fun to me. My music is also fairly stripped down and simple.

I should have some new videos and soundcloud stuff posted fairly soon.
Hard to get time between work, family, and other responsibilities, and I dont really wanna post anything in it’s half ass state.

For anyone wanting to secure their gear to a case or whatever, this is hardcore velcro.

This is my current rig housed in one heavy roadcase…

MIDIBOX SEQV4 controls it all midi and CV/Gate…

ACIDLAB Bassline - rx’s midiclock

Machinedrum - rx’s clock use the internal seq and change patterns via SEQV4

Doepfer DE MK1 - rx’s midi ,bass, lead, arps, you name it

Minitaur - rx’s midi, bass duties

MKS-30 (PG200) - rx’s midi, stabs pads strings

Jomox Mbase01 - rx’s midi, kicks works great with midi clock filtered out

A&H Zed 14 - mixer

Ensoniq DP/4 - rx’s midi, use it in a 2x2 mode… 2 fx sends fed to A&H consisting of 2 fx blocks for each send… Mostly delay/verb

RNC 1773 - compressor to tame it all…

Yet to play a show with this setup as I just finished this MIDIBOX and still learning how to use it… Prior to it there was another Darkenergy and a DARKTIME in there minus the Bassline… I get a lot of enjoyment with this setup…

The setup which i currently use is

An Octatrack as a Midi controller and sequencer for:

Jomox Mbrane
Jomox Mbase
Roland Juno-GI
Roland SH-101

Future plans are:

Boss DR-880 for drums and bass lines
Roland DEP-5 for effects

Best Regards,

Rudy

What road case are you using to hold all that? Care to share a picture?

These guys from London Ontario… Guy I dealt with was great… Like I said this rig is heavy that is the drawback…

Hey all.

Here is our first all hardware live set improv performance.

https://soundcloud.com/smoothcrunchy/on-the-waterlive

Im on an Octatrack with an ipad running Lemur connected to an iConnect MIDI2+(mostly just for prefader mutes and fader controls of track level)

MIDI>of iConnect to a Kenton MIDI thru5(just to send transport/clock to the instruments down the chain)

then MIDI out/thru to a TB-3, TR-8, Roland Gaia, Volca Bass played by bandmate; with KP3+ and Roland Space Echo pedal for outboard effects

Octatrack Main outs and other instrument outs into an Allen & Heath Zed14fx.
Recorded off the A&H board outs.

Cheers

Good thread, it’s fun to see how everyone sets up.

Here’s ours:

The A4 goes into the KP3 for sequenced arps and the occasional live played part.

OT is the master clock and most of the sequences are triggered there. My drummer has a fun setup - he’s got a MachineDrum, an Octapad, a snare and cymbals. The MD and Octpad are patched into the OT’s input so that I can do filters / effects in real time on the drums while he plays.

If anyone’s in Chicago and wants to check it out, we’re playing at Township 12/18

Hi Live Players!
Nice thread, cool Setups!

On my Foto the OT in the down left is missing, it´s the center (Midi Clock to all, Seq. & FX for Mono Lancet and BS 2, some Live Looping).
404 for one shots and speech samples.

I do Live Shows with a Drummer, sometimes plus a singer.
As I have Jazz Piano Background, the Nord Stage 2 handles Piano/Rhodes/Hammond sounds, but I gotta check out it´s synth as well, is much better than expected. A scaled down Nord Wave.

Although I really like the BS2, I might change it for a Novation Remote 25 plus Minitaur, to add a Controller for the OT and to play some OT samples & Mono Lancet with a keyboard.

Does anybody have experience with 1 Key-controller for different synths and to play the OT samples? Just use the Autochannel? Or switch between parts on the controller, 1 part for each synth and 1 for the OT samples, all with different Midi Channels?

Keep the Fotos coming

here is a picture of my buddies rig, I have no freaking clue how he has it routed

My kitchen table setup - The Motu828x allows me to route dynamically the inputs from the A4 / AR to the input of MD, either separately or in a mix.

Also, the 828x can operate without computer so it is a viable live setup.

…ok…played two shows with the new octatrack rig i mentioned here already…

now i made my mind up…and i gonna kick out the meeblip and one of the m5’s…

instead i gonna put my nord drum and one of the m5’s on top and get an analog four for the upper pull out, right under the ot…

but no, elektron, that’s that…i won’t get a rytm also…no way…i can resist…

I feel your pain. Having OT and A4 and still looking for a RYTM…

I’m planning my first solo show in jannuary with machines (i’m mostly a bass player) so tried to down to basics. OT, A4 and my Modular wich have two separated voices.

So I’ve six voices on the A4, plus six tracks on the OT (plus one THRU and one MASTER) which gives me plenty of options i think, in fact i’m still learning how to use it :-p

In the home studio also use Live, lots of stompboxes and more synths (Juno, Ambika, MS20) but modular and the Elektrons are in two cases so it’s easy to pick up for gigs.

This is my new live set-up, all neatly packed ready for a show we’re about to start touring.
Not pictured is the guitar :), an Fmr RNLA and a korg nanokontrol ( that I use just for changing track levels + mutes on the OT )
OT is running a bunch of loops but primarily it’s also being heavily used for realtime fx sequencing. Output of the pedal board goes direct into the OT inputs.
The Space and Aleph also feed into OT and everything is mixed internally.
Stereo output of OT then runs through the RNLA before going into venue soundsystem desk.

We’re filming the show next week, I’ll try and post something then.

@ circumstance: How do you connect the nanokontrol? Kenton USB Host?

yup… and works like a charm.

same can’t be said for Launch control XL which i’d really like to use instead :frowning:

we use:

2 Octatrack
2 Analog Four
2 Analog Rytm
1 Ecler EVO4 Mixer

sometimes we take out some other sutff like Xoxbox, Bastl Microgranny, Bleeplabs Drum,Moog Minitaur, NordLead

If I ever get to play any live gigs it will be:

  • OT mk1
  • Rytm mk1
  • Avalon 303 & RAT
  • DSI Evolver

At a pinch, OT & Rytm alone
