What is the Consensus on the Sidechain Comp Issue

There are workarounds and ways you can utilize this behaviour.

When I want sidechaining on a kick or something, I turn down the track‘s volume. That way it‘s completely silent, but still triggers the compressor. Then just let another external synth play the desired kick pattern via midi.
It‘s nice, also very useful for having a sequencable global volume reduction, perfect for building some anticipation in the tracks when suddenly everything gets quiet in rhythm.

Tested this during the development, but it didn’t turn out very well with how this compressor works and the internal routing. It was quite tricky to manage levels in combination with dry/wet.

I think this is super useful as well, but as I said before the implementation didn’t cut it. It might happen if the compressor gets attention again, but there is so much else to put time into so I don’t expect it to happen.

You’re not sidechaining everything - you are compressing everything. There are many uses for sidechain in this manner. For example, if you have sidechain set to LR you can use the filter to expand or compress certain frequencies. Using the same method for individual tracks as sidechain allows you to control the compression further, or use it to follow a certain sound - or accentuate it if setting attack, release and filter carefully. Instead of sidechain compression, Id rather have a second filter with bandpass and negative resonance with an adjustable width. This way you can sidechain EQ your sampler tracks.
