What feature octa lost from mnm and md?

as we know, octa got the spirit from first generation duo,ram machine from md,fx machine from mnm,os framework…and lots of thing

but one parameter is a kind of degrade compare to duo:program change parameter of midi sequencer, the program change of duo could do p-lock,since this is in the main control page, but the midi program change of octa is live in the setup page, those parameter in setup page are un p-lock able,so you couldn’t p-lock program change per step like you do in mnm and md,that make some
kind of sound lock effect of morden machine,
really hope elektron fix this!

…that’s due to limitations had to be made, since back then, when octatrack was a new and groundbreaking invention in hardware flexibilty to handle audio and make it “liquid”…

u can only squeeze in a certain amount of functions at each individual stage until ur hardware headroom is maxed out…

plocking data settings also alongside and embedded within the midi protocol makes the realtime approach of it a heavy burden…

it’s old code by now, dealing with the overall capacities from back in the days in a most balanced way possible…

just trade off one cc parameter to program change!
i don think it is limited by hardware resource,it is some kind of thinking per step program change is not must have feature, lots of sequencer and synth treat program change as a setup parameter but a real time parameter,so no thing to blame octa, the first generation duo were too special to execute things.

Digitakt and Digitone can also p-lock program changes. No idea why they changed that in the OT and no idea why there is this distinction between main and setup parameters. Might be due to cpu limitations indeed. Less parameters that can be modulated, cc controlled , p-locked and scene locked should mean less work for cpu, no?

My guess is resource limitations.

OT has no parameter lock limit, a rare treat across the rest of the Elektron product line. I’ll take that over p-locking program change. But I understand why some would want it all.

I think it’s double missed because OT is otherwise such a great brain, as midi clock central in many peoples setups
