What do you use the octatrack inputs for?

I’ve been doing live sets with just the OT with a Blofeld desktop plugged into AB inputs. The Blofeld is very versatile, portable and multitimbral - it only has one stereo output, but that’s OK for me. I got a Digitone late last year, with the intention of using it as a 4-part synth module for the OT. But I’ve been having so much fun with it, my current live rig is just the DN! I haven’t figured out the best way to integrate the OT and DN yet.

One day I’ll learn to be happy with a Rytm, OT plus one multi-timbral synth. It really seems to be enough.

I have a ridiculous amount of gear plugged into my OT. I’ve been spending a lot of time getting everything set up and it’s starting to pay off, although I’ve had a lot of head scratcher moments getting all the midi settings sorted.

MM2 into DN into AB.

MM2 is sequenced by the DN.
DN tracks are currently sequenced by the OT, (LFOs aplenty!) but I might still do some internal sequencing.

Sirin into NTS1 into TR8s into CD.

Sirin and NTS-1 have same sequence running on two separate OT channels. I can mute and unmute the NTS-1 midi channel if I want to add the oscillator into the mix. NTS-1 is also used for FX for the Sirin. I also have a track running noise on the 8s routed out to the audio input on the Sirin. Fader up to add noise to the Sirin.

OT is sending ghost notes to the 8s for conditional trigs, I’ll likely start experimenting with extra midi LFOs for decay on hi hats and some other destinations, as the 8s only has 1 LFO.

I’m considering getting my SH-01a to the party and switching the nts-1/sirin to mono only.

I can’t think of any other device that would allow me to do all this, plus acting as a transition looper and live remixer. I still have four audio tracks for sample chains and field recordings, or mangled vocal samples.

I’ve had the OT for over a year. We’ve had our ups and downs, but I feel like I’m finally starting to get to the point where I’m getting more comfortable. Talk about wearing all the hats at once.

Octatrack is the brain and Mixer for two XOXBOXES and a Nava 909!

Right now I have the Digitakt coming in AB. But it get’s red and distorted rather quickly; not sure what I am doing wrong atm…
CD is for my synth, which will be the typhon starting tomorrow.

DT seems too loud, obviously.
Set OT MIXER GAIN to 0 or lower, and lower DT Main output if necessary.

its just so quiet if i do that; i need to crank my focusrite all the way to the right to properly hear the bass / low end. If that’s normal; then ok. Right now I do have gain high indeed.

Doesn’t seem normal, but I don’t know what are you settings…
Anyway if its constantly red and distorted you have to lower inputs…

AH! Eureka! I have discovered the main out option on the mixer page.
Do you always have that +?

I leave MAIN LEVEL at 0, because it influences MAIN recording level.

If you use Thru, you can increase its SRC (PLAYBACK for MKI) VOL to max, default 0 value being - 12db, lowering signal significantly.

You can also set LEVEL to 127, because you loose around 3db with default value (108).

You also loose 12db with AMP VOL default value. I usually keep it around 0 to keep some headroom, and correct it sometimes.

You can’t set everything to max!
