What do you use the octatrack inputs for?

…mk1 hosts a mam 303 clone that is hardwired to some hazarai delay/reverb/looper ehx pedal that makes the mono feed from that clone a stereo wonderland…
this became one of my kind of signature sounds lately…what happens there, with ot’s midiengine that drives this little analog synthbox from bavaria, spread out and processed by the ehx and further of fx is really unique and breathtaking…

mk2 hosts a model cycles…which gets not used as a traditional groovebox but some weird rhythmical harmonic singing bounce percussion unit…

both other input pairs remain open to whatever…but most of the time they’re not in use…
need the track count for all my costumized sample chain slices to swirl around…
and one through machine track always hosts strictly only one signal input feed for further fx use…don’t wanna block two tracks with through machines…

and i’m not sampling a lot with the ot’s…a shame…i know…
but ram for flexing is more important to me than recording buffer space…

but if i’d be more into sampling…then a patchbay or some mixer/aux/bus out would be granted for sure…

Well given the subject, as for inputs is it possible to use a dynamic mic, I believe, with one of those ‘cloud’ type pre-amps straight from the mic to the input without phantom power? Don’t know if anyone has tried or would know how to do this without a mixer in the chain to supply phantom power, didn’t know if the general power would give the pre amp some basic level of gain regardless.

I just plug mixer’s Left output in the A input and have realized I need to stereo using both at some point but I figured out there was the ability to sum the channels using a flex machine, so it was nice figuring out a work around without reading the manual or searching online.

Like already mentioned, the ZED 14 has 4 aux sends, 2x pre fader and 2x post fader. Only the pre fader sends can be switched to stereo, though.

This is another handy feature for easily sending stereo to the OT.
Bloody good mixers!

I have all of my instruments connected to SQ5 mixer with 2 stereo aux sends to OT.
In most projects I feed drums/perc into OT-AB and any melodic tracks into OT-CD.

If I’m not planning to use thru etc tracks, then AB/CD are just used as a quick way to record samples

Didn’t know, makes the Zeds even better than I realized!

Yes, i’m eyeballing the playdifferently model 1, but given how cheap the zed14s are nowadays its hard to justify the price difference

Bought a Micromonsta 2, audio going into A+B. Wonderful!

@lesstalkmoredisco It was this feature that tipped it for me!
@tendingtropic I got a mint used one for £175, can’t say fairer than that really

Input A is so I can sample my lead singer’s vocal at any time

Inputs C+D are coming from a mixer that has two synths and guitar played by my bandmates, and my Analog Rytm. So all the filtering and FX I do with the crossfader are applied to the whole mix besides the vocals.

i really got to start thinking about live sampling…

it’s girtherobot, not girl :stuck_out_tongue: it’s an invader zim reference. an internet pseudonym i’ve been using since age 12

this is a cool setup. I wonder though, if you have a send from your mixer to octa, and you start to mangle the inputs from the octa with scenes, wouldnt you also still hear the ‘normal’ feed on top of it? (the things that go in to the mixer)?

It’s not a send. The output of the mixer goes directly to the Octa. The Octa is output to, actually, another mixer lol which has the two vocals that don’t get affected by my filtering.

I have a flex track setup to record inputs CD, but I don’t think my band mates would be happy if I played back a two bar recording of them and mangled it to shit while they stand there and do nothing.

Got mine used for a similar price, basically new (it looked like it had never been used actually^^). Really good mixer, decent sounding eqs, nice faders.
Especially useful with OT (or other samplers ofc), because you have the pre fader stereo send.

It’s a steal really for what you get. It’s my new workhorse, replacing my tired out Mackie 1202.

Lol, it’s a small world^^ The Zed14 also replaced my old 1202 VLZ Pro.

The limited amount of inputs of the OT + its endless possibilities must end up with só many different OT+mixer combinations.

Although only OT as mixer with just one or two companions makes for one of the most enjoyably focused options.

Right now currently:

No-input pedal chain & contact mic thru distortion pedals - A & B inputs
Lyra8 & DFAM - C & D inputs

Outputs either hard panned so I can get 4 mono signals out or stereo output & one of the cue outputs routed to the DFAM to give master clock from the OT metronome.

this.

also sometimes I’ll run other gear directly into it, if my setup changes. or if I get a new piece of gear that’s near the OT in the studio and I don’t feel like re-doing my cable routing just to play with the new toy.
