What can we now expect in a Digitone update?

With the release of DT2, what do people think might port over to DT when it updates? I’m praying for the Euclidean sequencer and compressor but somehow I think that won’t happen!

Well. The OG DT got some of DT II’s machines before it’s release. I would have expected the OG DN to receive the machines before DN II if it’s possible. This makes me doubt they’re coming.

why would they update the dn I now? that would keep people from buying the new box. not gonna happen

Those machines were developed before the Digitakt II’s release.

I don’t know if it’s possible to backport the Digitone II’s machines within the older spec, but I imagine some features will make it through.

As the new dev platform is being stabilized for both model IIs over prioritizing the old lines, we really don’t have enough information to go off of either way.

I think because the DN 1 was still available to purchase new until very recently so it would be pretty shitty to leave those buyers with a completely unsupported box now. I do think updates would be more bug fixes and maybe small updates though.

Maybe we’ll actually get a useful scale mode and polyphonic sequencing.
An upgrade from four to eight tracks (but still eight voices) using the trig keys.
A revamped interface that repurposes the track buttons.
Page jump/loop.

Hah, yeah as if that would happen when they can sell a new box for the privilege. Maybe we’ll see the page controls.

I mean, set your expectations low. If something happens, great! If it never got released, would you never make music?

Sometimes GAS seems like a pyramid scheme or bubble that robs you of time and being present instead of money (but also money.)

i’d be very happy to get the euclidean sequencer on the digitone 1 (and don’t think it’s tooooo unreasonable) but tbh i don’t expect any more updates except for bug fixes.

feels kinda wacky that many people expect and DEMAND substantial updates with big new features for devices that have been out for years (let alone devices superseded by new versions). the thing might not be perfect and might still have room for improvement, but it is complete. demanding big, ongoing updates for free is what is gonna encourage companies to implement bullshit subscription systems .

Best is to not expect anything. People already start dreaming about additions only to become disappointed when their over inflated dreams don’t become reality.

Possible doesn’t mean it will happen though. Sometimes there are business decisions.

but then again, my trust in Elektron would suffer as a result.

especially since DT1 received a massive firmware upgrade shortly before DT2 Release, Digitone owners are simply left out in the cold.

I honestly don’t expect much updates for a now more or less legacy (?) synth. And I think I’m absolutely fine with that. Because it’s a great synth after all!

Only thing I really wish for is fixed ratios.

Couldn’t agree more. The incentive is there to get DN2, why would they lose that? But I’m just wondering what we might get as scraps off the DN2 table.

I highly doubt the Euclidean seq will find its way over, that seems to be a major selling point for DN2. Probably more like quality of life changes that bring DN up to speed with DN2, rather than whole new features.

But damn… I’ve wanted that compressor for ages.
