What can a Linn Drum/LM-1/LM-2 do that I can't do on a Digitakt?

I love the Linn Drum!

From my understanding, it is a sample based drum machine.

Out of curiosity, (and to cure the GAS of wanting to get a Behringer clone when it comes out) - is there anything that it can do that I canā€™t do by loading up the samples on my Digitakt/Octatrack?

:face_with_monocle:

Update: Found this great video from @jcd that explains how to get variations in the hi-hat without individually adjusting each hit. Thatā€™s something unique to the Linn Drum.

The way the drums work on the LM-1 is very different how most digital machines work.

Each drum has its own free running sample clock, which means each hit will sound a bit different, kind of like a VCO.

The sample format also plays into the sound.

Thereā€™s a lot more to it, but Iā€™m on my phone right now. Anyway, itā€™s a pretty unique setup, which aside from its rarity, is why itā€™s so sought after.

There are probably some other writeups out there about everything.

You can probably emulate some of it with tricks, sample positions etc. on the Digitakt.

Also check out VPROM2 (software)

The EPROM images are out there (a bit tricky to get sometimes) but not sure how easy it is to convert them to wavs for something like the Digitakt.
