I don’t care. I’m having a midlife crisis and wanna go back to my teenage years. I despised all this ska punk in high school and now I’m kinda into it.

I’ve spent the last few months glued to the STOOR youtube channel, and I don’t see myself escaping any time soon. I love what Speedy J has been doing with live electronic music over the last few years.

I feel this… I was never into punk or ska growing up, but as I’ve gotten older I’ve branched out a bit.

Funny enough, years and years ago, I had a good friend who grew up in Connecticut and was big into Ska in the 90’s. Turned out she knew a bunch of the guys from Spring Heeled Jack, including Chris Rhodes.

I guess the Bosstones were in the area and Chris wanted a stake sandwich, so my friend and I took him to a divey stake house in New Jersey to have stake sandwiches and drinks and spent a few hours bullshitting.

I knew who he was but because I was more interested in grindcore or whatever it was at the time, he was just a guy that played trumpet or whatever. Really cool dude, definitely one of the most down to earth and cool “celebrities” or famous people that I’ve meet.

Anyway, these days that whole area of music is actually where my partner’s interests and my own meet, enough that until recently, seeing the Bosstones was the one show we went to together.

Now that we have a kid, they get played a lot along with a bunch of other ska, punk, and some other random stuff. While my kid isn’t doing any death metal growls just yet (one day, I do have them throwing up horns though), I consider the fact that my kid would rather sing “Teenage Lobotomy” over “Baby Shark” a major win.

I love this live set by Gray Contrast. The version of Forgive on this set has been stuck in my head for days:
