Sinn Sisamouth was Cambodian. You should look for the Cambodian Rocks compilation, which has a number of his tracks, as well as many by Ros Serey Sothea and other artists. They were all killed by the Khmer Rouge.

Been listening to a lot of south East Asian music lately but been a fan for a decade or so.

Never looked into Sinns backstory though and I did not realize he was such a popular figure before the genocide. What a disturbing tragedy.

You could watch Werner Herzogā€™s ā€œThe Enigma of Kaspar Hauserā€, which has quite different music but is almost certainly a better movie. (I watched the video above. The music is catchy but for me the visuals are cringe-level.)
