What am I doing wrong? Ableton not responding to Octatrack MIDI

Can someone please help with this - I have spent 7 hours today trying to get ableton to accept midi from the Octatrack. I have it so that the Octatrack receives start/stop commands from Live however I can’t get Live to accept any MIDI from the Octatrack?

This is starting to drive me bananas. Please help!

I have tried connecting octatrack through TM-1 and now through Saffire Pro-24 without any success. :frowning:

How much do you know about setting up midi in and out from a DAW? Need to clarify that first mate.

Just a thought, when you assign a midi channel to the Octa are you clicking down the encoder to save the channel, you can also do this by pressing the OK button. This needs to be done.

I would say a reasonable amount. I have another set up where I have managed to have a Virus, MD, A4, MnM and Maschine all hooked up to an iMac in (almost) perfect harmony where I could use the Virus keyboard to control notes on everything else.

The problem is that that setup is in storage at the moment until I finish DIY on the studio and was wanting to play around with some sequenced melodic elements on top of a set of sampled core parts on the Octatrack. I’m using a MacBook running Mavericks (rather than my usual iMac).

In terms of MIDI interfaces I have a a Focusrite Saffire PRO-24 and TM-1.

I have set the Octatrack MIDI up to send on individual channels (double tapping the Playback menu). In terms of specific menus:

Control
Default settings

Sync
Transpore: Recv
Clock: Recv
Progam CH: Null
Ch AUTO: Null
Recv: Null

Channels
AUTO Ch: 11
Trig CH: Default

MIDI Sequencer:
CC Direct Connect: Enabled

Please let me know if you need any further info.

I think I may have solved this myself lol

I didn’t realise that you had to press Yes to confirm the MIDI channel, which now seems to be sending MIDI to ableton.

That is a common issue

Martin, sorry i didn’t see your second post before replying to the first (or maybe read it subliminally).

It’s all working great now, which has created a new track in the space of about 10 minutes :joy:
