i started with a tr808, oberheim xpander and a shitty amp. I sat on that set up for a couple of years actually - *edit I guess I had a sequencer too. Was one of the future retro sequencers.
The RX21 was in no way “dope”, nor the little mixer.! I let the Pro-1 go when I emigrated but the CZ-101 stayed with me for nearly 30 years before I donated it.
Korg Wavestation
Soundcraft Spirit Folio
Roland Alpha Juno 2
Alesis Quadraverb
Boss Dr660
But in 1987, 6 years before the above setup, I had 2 Technics 1200s and a Phonic MRT60 mixer, that my brother and dad had bought me. I was a very lucky 14 year old.
SL1200s followed by a Yamaha FX550 .
Then progressed to a synth - Novation Bass Station and Tascam 424 porta
Wow rocking it.
Topped off with Amiga 1200 OctaMed.
Things ain’t that different now lol, except I have more gear than I could ever possibly use.
Yamaha Clavinova (a keyboard was needed)
Korg MS20 + MS50 (no Midi, but real Synths)
Korg M3R (because M1 was way too expensive)
Kawai Q80 (sequencer with floppy disk)
Simple mixer (forgot what it was, very basic thing from an electronics shop) and headphones
I started with Rebirth and Reason way back in the early 2000s, but if we are talking about the first 5 pieces of hardware I had.
Tascam US-122 interface
Roland XP-50
M-Audio Trigger Finger
M-Audio BX5a monitors (still have)
Beyerdynamic DT770 pro (still have)
Not very exciting list as I was mostly in the box. It all changed when I received a Korg EMX1 in 2016. That marked the beginning of my out of the box transition.
