Can someone please make sure I’m doing wavetables correctly, and answer a question?
I drop a factory wavetable in a slot
Choose the GRID machine (not slice?)
Grid length of 64
Now I can scan through, but I want each note I play (musical note on a keyboard) to pick a new, random slice, and I just can’t seem to get there. I’ve watched this, but it’s not clear how I can do what I’m wanting to do. I’m probably missing something very simple. What am I doing wrong?
It’s bipolar. A setting of 1 is -1 to 1, total 2. This is why setting the middle of the range on the destination parameter is also required.
Some waveforms only have values above the zero line (RAMP, EXPO) in this case they act like the unipolar counterparts. so for the e.g. RAMP to go through all 64 slices it’d be SRC slice set to 1 and then the LFO depth set to 64
Guyz , new to digitakt here ,and i watched zillions of videos on it
I wanna use a wavetable like a reazl wavtebakle , with the ability to,scan back frw and back , not way to do that … in one shot , it loops and at the end comes back to start , i need a reverse once at the end …
Random trigg with the grid , i don’t care for now
Also i loaded my own wavetables , and it’s a clik fest even with one shot , (luftrum wavetables)
Any idea on how to achieve a standard wave tabel scanning ?
I tried again today , i set all the good paramater , place the slice in center , 64 slices , lfo set right …ect and what i have is slice read going up and then going down in a diff speed , it is not consistant in speed … something def wrong …
Simple question , can you guyz download this waveform (it’s a test waveform from Plugmon , exellent site and guy , he does also gui for UHE stuff (officially also)
The site is here : Hive - Analog Anthem - PLUGMON
and the waveform for test is here , click then the dot and download
those wavetables are 256 frames and are classic format .
Please tell me there’s a solid way to use wavetables , because it was one thing that weighted a lot in my decision to keep the digitakt II
I’ve seen this too, particularly with ‘classic format’ 256 frame wavetables. Which should work fine sliced on a 64 grid right ? Assuming the changes from frame-to-frame are smooth, you should just get 4 original ‘frames’ per slice of the grid.
The only thing I’ve found helps is to slow down the LFO.
I’ve also discovered that you get can sometimes get added ‘sizzle’ when the wave is sweeping back to the start.
I wish Elektron would tell us what the limits are for wavetable files. Give us a spec or something. “Each slice no longer than X samples” or whatever the constraints are.
Exactlky that , it goes up (positif mod) at the right speed but goes back faster , and sometime not in concsistant positions…
yep setting is 64 , head (or slice) put in center , slow LFO , and depth according to length of cycle i want .
I m surpised on how inconsistant it is , while elekron provides even some wavetables …
Like ya said , maybe the nuber of frames , i have the same issue with Luftrum Wavetables (which are by the way a must have)
Seems that all smooth when you use Eletron wavetables , my conclusion is that we need to know what are the spec for compatible wavetables ?
Anyone knows ?
I’m also a beginner when it comes to the Digitakt / Elektron. Still, I tried to answer some of your questions.
1.) When I use the sine waveform from the factory samples, it definitely clicks. With the few other wavetables (including user samples), I didn’t get any clicking noises. I think the sine is missing the option to have a fixed phase.
2.) As for the optimal length of wavetables, I can’t say much yet, except that longer WT samples at least “work.” I’m still unsure about the transitions between the individual wavetables - I’ll test a few wavetables that have a bit more going on.
When i talk about specs it’s more Frames relayted , 256 def bugs in there …for wavetables , i suspect frames are around 128 or 64 on elektron ones …
Anyway my concern is that i modulate the play head and it dioesn’t fallow the sine wave mod movement , it’s unconsistent … (i tried all speed and settings possible)
If you play wavetables like samples , one shot , it will play just smooth *…but it defies the purposes
Also the introduction of fades in toneverk answer the very problematic we all higglighted when it come to smooth looping !!
Maybe there’s something off with my ears / listening habits, but even the 256-long wavetables I created work here. Except that with some WTs, the last cycle sometimes sounds a bit strange – but that could also be due to the WT itself; I haven’t cross-checked that yet with a WT synth.
As for the feature you want, yeah, it seems there’s no option to switch the LFO to unipolar.
With one WT I did have problems though, since the Digitakt apparently didn’t like the initial volume. Strangely enough, I’ve tested WTs with even wilder volume movements and they work fine – even ones that have a DC offset.
I think using a 256 slice wavetable with a 64 grid is just going to mean that each selected slice is actually 4 slices from your wavetable. Assuming your wavetable morphs between similar sounds rather than big jumps in shape, it probably will sound pretty much fine, slightly different to if you were looping a single slice but just a loop of several cycles instead.
EDIT: sorry, I’ve just read up the thread and I seem to be saying exactly what @bibenu already said 8 days ago.
