+1 for the Shruthi-1
Here is a little demo of mine running through the presets
-1 for the Shruthi-1, at least by the OP’s criteria.
It’s a nice synth, but not the most easily sequenced by the Analog Four as the OP required.
I have a Slim Phatty. Even though the interface is quirky, it sounds so good I’m not sure I’ll ever part with it. I prefer it’s sound to the newer moogs for some reason. Maybe because it seems a less precise and unyielding.
That said, I consider giving it up for a Nyborg 12 or 24 everyday.

The Dreadbox Erebus looks like instant gratification too.
I would definitely consider a VCO based synth to complement the A4.

Shit, missed that part…
Wow! Thanks!
Guys, thank you for great advices! ![]()
Have to listen all this demos!
< $1000 (but I’d prefer something between $$400-600).
You’re kind of spoilt for choice with a $1k… a bit less, less options obviously.
I’d be thinking about a semi-modular, with a very distinct tone (bass?) that you can sequence from the A4, and also feed back into the A4 to use its FX… play to the A4’s strengths and weaknesses as it were.
Module, no keys?
Blue Lantern Dwarf Star
Future Retro XS
Kilpatrick Phenol
Moog Mother32
Mutable Instruments Shruthi / Ambika
Pittsburgh
Rusty you forgot the Avalon Bassline!!!
A little at the top of your budget but a most wicked bass synth!

I’m still waiting to get some flight time on it ![]()

You should pop over to the NYC for a jam!
Couple of left field ideas… both within your budget…
DSI Evolver… covers the hybrid side of things, and imho is a great sounding bit of kit. The PolyEvolver is a true classic.
Elektron MonoMachine… ok, no cv/gate, but it can be the master, and A4 slave. Would be a very nice compliment / juxtaposition to the A4…
Just throwing dem there hats into the ring…

The Evolver would need midi to cv/gate, but it’s a great little hybrid. I’ve been having fun playing it with/through my Machinedrum.
The Teenage Engineering Oplab can take CV/Gate in and turn that to Midi, but that adds $300 (or more if you get the aluminum base) to any setup. I love my Oplab but got it as part of a bundle which made it more worth it. If you get something like this, though, then a world of small sub-$200 synths opens up (Meeblip Anode, Volcas, etc).
The Korg Monotribe with the latest OS update (2.1) can take CV/Gate into its sync input, but requires a special cable (1/8" TRRS - two rings) to do so and they’re hard to find. I asked on Muffwiggler if the Elektron CV kit would work as an input to the Monotribe and the consensus was ‘nope’.
