Still not a big fan of such designs. But the synth engine and the price tag look appealing. Will need to check this out in a store
Why does ‘affordable’ always result in a display for ants…?
Was really hoping for a Drum Machine
I’ve got an M already so this is probably a pass for me.
It looks fun at a great price point with matrix and polyAT, I’ll definitely check audio demos out of curiosity.
This should welcome many to the Waldorf Family ![]()
Waldorf finally understands the affordable Synth game. They forgot it for so many years.
Looks like I’m the one to blame for the false hopes about the 27th — sorry about that. But as I mentioned, Rolf Wöhrmann (ceo of Waldorf) did say in a podcast that they’ve been working on a drum machine for about a year now. So something is definitely coming, just not on the 27th.
I wonder if the Protein will include the additional ‘filters’ that the all-digital MW2/XT/XTK had, like waveshapers, FM, etc. Plus the many math functions in the mod matrix, and the option to disable WT interpolation for grunginess.
I had the MW 1 Rev B (CEM 3387), MW2, and XTK, and for harsh tones, the later all-digital models were unbeatable, similar to modern FM synths. Deeper sub-bass too. Though most people seem to prefer the MW1 for emulating Prophet tones, I preferred the digital mayhem from the later all-digital models. Very special synths.
All good ![]()
I dream of many drum machines that will never appear
Waldorf Wave Drum

If this thing has the sound and can produce the deep subs or harmonics of the MW1 or ideally closer to a PPG it’s worth it to me. Despite the name. Maybe.
The robot from Logan’s Run, nice! What a great movie.
Microwave?
Smol dorf.
Ha ha, clever. I remember disassembling my XTK and there was funny text inside the case warning about doing that. The text was a very long line that ended in a spiral. Interesting company.
‘Fish, plankton, sea greens and protein from the sea’. ![]()
you mean Wave Attack
This looks lovely. The M has been a dream synth for me - the sound is to die for - but I am pretty much all in the box these days, and haven’t been able to justify the price or the real-estate. This might be cheap and small enough for me to make an exception!
I wonder if it’s a slimmed down version of the wavetable engine in the Iridium? And if it is, does that mean we can expect a series of these little boxes, one for VA, another for granular, FM etc?
