I own a microwave 1, microwave xt, and a 3rd wave.

I operate on a different wave… table.

It’s right now a retro rehash, was hoping for something more modern. I appreciate the compact form factor and low price though.

personally, I’d prefer it to be slightly more cost wise if that meant having at least hands on envelope controls.

something size wise like the struthi xt. it could still be affordable, say 5-600 ish but be way more immediate.

let’s see tho, maybe the interface and sound make it worth it.

Wow I really never would’ve guess another microwave thing… the M the iPad app and now the oddly named protein… I know they think it is science name because they love that but let’s be honest it does not sound like a cool science name in the states, sounds like a synth bro synth for synth workouts.

That aside the envelope knobs are a bit confusing as there is also envelope depth on the wave and filter section so I imagine the single knob is not a depth control… maybe a one knob envelope tilt type thing? I suppose we will know shortly but certainly at a glance the strangest thing.

I doubt there is any shared code between this and the M but yeah probably has a lot of the iPad app dna… hopefully this comes out bug free.

finally! something inexpensive

compact.
keyless.
instantly on my list.

That is a nice setup indeed!

I’m looking forward to hearing this and seeing how much of a pain in the arse it is to program.

The lack of envelope controls is a little odd, but I’ve always been a fan of Waldorf gear (still have Blofeld, Pulse2, Streichfett & Rocket), and do miss my old Microwave so I’m looking forward to seeing more of this as at that price it’s likely a no-brainer.

just a minute of rant:
i understand low price tag, production costs reduction, and all that stuff — but lack of additional outputs in multitimbral machines drives me nuts.

Nice, one of their stores is right around the corner here. Hope they’ll have it hooked up for a quick test.

Agree. Synths in the 289-349€ segment seem to be selling well so a lot of stuff get’s to hit the market in that range.

Mutable Instruments Anushri has a one knob envelope that works quite well. It basically scrolls through different envelope settings going from snappy percussive to pads.

Offline now!

Before allowing myself the slightest enthusiasm, I need to see in the manual how they solved the accessibility of essential functions. Namely: Envelopes for a start.

A Microwave reheating some long time first recipe Wavetables. It was about time to release something inexpensive. The R&D must have been paid now, isn’t it.

They paid for a custom ASIC for this and that is expensive. Thay need to sell volume.

Not only in the states.

But I’m starting to think this is a sort of engagement bait marketing strategy and we fell for it. :relieved:
Seriously, if you can get people to talk about your product, doesn’t really matter why, even if they’re just talking about how the name is weird, they’ll remember your product. It’ll be on people’s minds when they shop online etc.

Hope they have a clever solution for the lack of envelope control…

Waldorf is just…idk…likable. Hope this experiment works out for them and we get to see more Waldorf synths in this form factor in the future.
