As many have already said … this synth is underrated
I’m keen to see how close the iOS Au3 is to the hardware. Ive always been tempted by the hardware even very recently.
I’m somewhat of a Blofeld fan so of course I’m interested in how accurate the iPad version is. Here’s a test with the same 3 sounds on both hardware and software, all recorded into Digitakt II.
Hardware:
Software:
Its still got the same overall character as the hardware, but there’s clearly some differences in the software version, probably partly due to the updated effects (the software reverb actually doesnt glitch like the hardware does).
I like both versions and the convenience of having it on iPad is huge, plus it can transfer to the hardware and be used as a control surface, well worth £12.99
Anyone know if the iOS Blofeld has a patch randomizer like the hardware? I didn’t see mention of it in the manual.
does anyone have a source for replacement buttons for blofeld? no response from waldorf and no search returns for “blofeld replacement buttons” other than people asking this very question across the expanse of time but i figure i’d add my voice to the chorus
I would keep trying Waldorf, though it depends where you are, I’m not sure if they ship to the UK anymore.
I took a gamble on the Blofeld a couple of years ago despite being familiar with the many anecdotes about issues like are described here. I haven’t used mine much since I got it to be fair, but so far it’s been holding up just fine - which I hope continues, as it’s a really fantastic synth for the size. Modulation for days! And I know some people are turned off by the menu-diving nature of programming it, but personally I’ve found it super fast and easy to get around.
I haven’t tried mapping any controls from the EC4 to it yet, but hopefully will get around to that soon for some more hands on tweaking.
The poor quality control on this unit has always seemed strange to me given Waldorf’s reputation, which I thought was otherwise very good.
I love mine and agree its interface is under appreciated. I like it better than any editors I’ve tried. Mines probably 5 years old and has no issues. It would freeze occasionally but the newest update fixed that. I had one of the older units and it had a lot of issues. It’s circuit board looked different so I’m positive they updated the hardware at some point.
Never see people say this but it’s really good at bass. Has a really tight clean envelope. And you can get some unique timbres by using a small amount of its various distortions. What a cool synth. Glad people are still using and talking about it.
That’s at least half my usage of mine.
I have a Core as well, and prefer the ‘grit’ and thump that Blofeld seems to do more naturally/readily than I can make happen with Core, with the exception of the Kernels/FM engine for FM-toned bass.
Blofeld is also quite good at bell tones that have a sort of ‘vintage’ Waldorf sound and can pull off 80’s/90’s bells really well. Core’s bells, on the other hand, tend to be very clean. I like those too, but they’re quite different if an older-school sound is what you’re after.
Love it.

It would be the first thing I tell you. The bass patches clearly stand out among the factory sounds.
You can get pretty much anything from Waldorf store.
thank you!
