Waldorf Music Attack 3 is the third generation of the percussion synthesizer from Waldorf, available since 2001. The plugin combines virtual analog sound generation with optional samples and brings a revised synthesis engine.
Looks like a similar UI to Microwave from the screenshots? Good news if so, rather than the Blofeld UI. TBH Waldorf is kinda instabuy for me despite their flaws
Since it has 24 tracks (!), I was a bit surprised it can “only” send 6 stereo tracks separately into your DAW. With that said, I’m really happy it’s there, some drum VSTs don’t have it at all. I guess you’ll be fine in most cases, and with the panning trick you can have 12 mono tracks.
I used the VST years ago and did some of my better sounds with it, and I really like the Microwave plugin. Attack 3 was an instant buy. Just did a short test and I am super happy.
I am not so much into distorted drum sound; I gravitate more towards reduced/plain drums. This plugin just makes it easy to go there and sound is very good for my ears.
I think it’s quite rare to find good digital drums on computers. The Max4Live drum synth in Ableton never really appealed to me, the same goes for the new build in drum synths in Bitwig, although I do like the old basic version and the grid is powerfull. The drum synths in Logic Pro are nice, but I’m not used to Logic. External VSTs like Battalion or Baby Audio Tekno don’t do it for me, for some reason. Max4Live devices by Fors are great, Noise Engineering Basimilus Iteritas is nice, NI Machine has nice drums synths and I like the Korg Elektribe.
I tested them all and always miss something. Looking forward to seeing if it’s first euphoria or if Attack 3 hits the spot for me.
…ha…really had fun with the hw rack version triggered by a mpc…looong time ago…
and just now, i remembered, it’s first ios app version still sits on my ooooooold ipad from 2012 somewhere…
but honestly…the very last thing this world needs is more next new software drum synth plugins…
from timeless unique mirco toniq aaaaall the way to battallion…
when i feel me creating music, there are less and less third party plugins i might still really need to get me anywhere i want, that i could not just DO in bitwig right away and anyways…
this attack is too slow 'n late for tomorrows party…
I can see what you mean there. I use a lot of them, really like some of them, but they don’t have the nice organic and dynamic feel of a Nord Drum or even a MD.
That also means that IMHO there is a place for a great software drum synth to be taken.
