Wake-up alarms recommendations

Family of four that has to wake up around the same time here. Default iPhone alarm, everyone is up and angry quickly.

I can’t stand waking up to music. My girlfriend has musical alarms and I find them way more unsettling than standard beeps. You may think this is the intended effect, but it triggers some horrible almost nervous feeling in me.
I wouldn’t want to wake up to my favourite music, I feel like it’d ruin songs for me, like when I had Inhake2 by Autechre as a ringtone 18 years ago; to this day I can’t listen to that song without thinking my phone’s ringing :frowning:

Nobody’s making their own alarm tunes?

Yup; that and a sequenced Dreadbox Hades loop that sounds like a hurdy-gurdy for my normal ringtone.

This morning has reminded me that using goat bleat samples would not be a good idea, as the real thing is insistent enough.

I spent 10days on holiday in a very different time zone with a friend who insisted on using Edith Piaf’s Non, Je Ne Regret Rien. It’s the wake-up music from the film Inception. The jet lag, the unfamiliar surroundings and the film reference made for a trippy start to each day.

I recommend trying to wake up to kisses and cuddels of your loved ones.
I think that should be the ultimate goal. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I made my own ring tone a while back. It was “proper”… bass, drums, FX, intentionally distracting and with a rhythmic element like the classic “ring ring pause” cycle. I was very proud of it, but it upset everyone else.

A friend who had the room next to me when we shared a house would wake up every morning with Nick Cave’s Henry’s Dream album or some Swans. I hated both artists for a very long time after that. We are still friends though.

I’ve done that once, it felt weird for some reason

Well, one of them has to wake up somehow

For the last 10+ years I’ve been waking up to this:

Currently just vibrate, which actually works well, used to have a recording of birds which was nice. Think I would have to choose a song I hate if going that route!

No way! That was one of the first singles I designed! Looks shit now I’ve just checked it out again haha. But the company I work at also did the album and that still looks great

I wake up to a little tune I recorded. Just a 30 secs noodle of an ipad synth preset. It’s a perfect gentle alarm and it’s somehow less offensive to be woken by something I made. I’d probably hate it if I tried to make it as an alarm.

I made this one many years ago, and still use it to this day. it’s using the harp from U-he Zebra.

I made mine as well - have been using the same for quite a few years now. FugueMachine sequencing iGrandPiano on iPad.
Here it is, in case it’s useful for someone
I trimmed the audio a bit since it was too long… also, it has a fade in, so it takes a moment to catch up (also a good tip for your custom-made alarms, imho  )

The ultimate goal has to be that you wake up when you want, not when you have to.

I prefer waking up gently:
