Volume knob not soldered

this is the second time i encountered this.
volume knob not soldered.

by the look of it. there is a mask used for wave soldering and it’s misaligned.

Its supposed to be like this, its the magic of the DT sound!

Is that on th MK 1 or 2?

Hard to imagine how this even passed QA/QC - is it functional? I assume not but possible a connection is made without it being soldered.

The flux/solder on the chassis solder points appears different, as if the part has been swapped in retrospectively ?!

Also, why does it have a sticker above it …

it’s analog. it works not being soldered just intermittently,
the digital part can be digitally tested for QA. (self test) i think.

i was about to solder it when i took the picture. that’s why i added the flux.
i have no clue with the sticker.

ah, i see !

Sure - but I’d expect the unit to be turned on and to check it has audible output at least

But if it works intermittently then it may have been missed either way I guess.

Weird one! At least it’s easy to fix if you can wield a soldering iron.

Yes, you’d be surprised. Things like that often work just by pressure against the PCB holes.

OTOH If there’s a whole batch of them you’d expect a higher failure rate then normal and somebody would investigate.

And what’s the manufacturing date? Do I need to check mine?? :fearful:

(the date’s on the sticker on the bottom)

When did they switch to the black PCB? My OG digitone PCB isn’t black, so maybe that will tell us something.

If you dont have an issue it probably doesn’t matter
