Firstly, can’t believe there’s no other dedicated thread on this amazing synthsamplisizer. Just sounds incredible, could be the everything you need ever tool… always seemed streets ahead of Kontakt but missed the big dog foothold that NI established as a standard.
Anyway, very nice update today, and unbelievely a big number 2 to 3 and it is for free for existing owners.
Any other Falcon fans out there? I’m embarrassed to say I’ve never managed to put enough time into it despite always being wowed each time I got to it for a bit.
As the update was for free, I feel duty bound to put it on my new years resolution list to make more progress on.
And no, my gushing enthusiasm is just personal, I’m not a stealth influencer in the making.
I own falcon… I also own a top notch iMac M1 and for some reason even that one isn‘t able to play some of those presets without dropouts.
It‘s a mystery.
Yeah, I really like Falcon, and likewise I’m only scratching the surface. The UVI stuff does sound amazing - seems to have loads of dimension, and the possibilities with Falcon seem endless. I also love the functional UI compared to other soft synths etc. I used to use MOTU MachFive 3, and got a really good intro deal to transfer over, which I couldn’t pass up on.
Falcon is a beast and I appreciate V3 being free….but I have to say I have ended up using it more as a preset player/tweaker…I learned the architecture when I first got it but it’s never really inspired me to dive in and make patches from scratch…almost too much!
one of the new features is templates which should add some speed and work flow improvements as well as getting away from tweaking presets so much… but there’s nothing wrong w/tweaking presets is there?
I’ve come close to picking it up a few times but it’d just be wasted on me. I barely touch Omnisphere these days either which makes a probably a comparable vst in terms of how I’d use Falcon (I’m a presets guy really).
Looks like it’s at a chunky discount just now though so a good time to jump in if anyone is considering it.
Absolutely nothing wrong with tweaking pre-sets (also how I learn!) but not as much ‘fun’ as some of the simpler synchs where you just hit INIT and work with almost hardware like WYSIWYG…with great power and all that! Good job really or I would have no excuse to have any soft synth other than Falcon!
Feeling in a bit of a “fuck it, I might buy a VST today” type mood and Falcon 3 is battling it out with Synplant 2 via Youtube trawling this morning.
Must say though, I really enjoyed Benn Jordan’s video:
Falcon still feels little pointy/clicky but that patch 5 genuinely made me grin. Had no idea this thing had the chord bank and probability arps (and much more) but what an inspiring combo for a patch.
Falcon is a no brainer for those with wind controllers looking for the perfect sound module(s). You can build anything from the most simple physically modeled reed or bowed instrument to a full orchestral or ensemble arrangement playable by simply blowing.
Granted, I’m not one to collect VSTs myself, but if you’ve got Falcon, you don’t really need any other softsynths. It does, however, feel more like a utility than an instrument; but a hell of a utility it makes.
So, if you’re a function over fashion kind of person, Falcon won’t let you down.
Even if you are not programming from scratch (and the new templates help) the power of layering the pre-sets into a multi is amazing, a true workstation. Drag 3 or 4 different pre-sets in, a pad, an arp, some beats and then go to the mixer and add some FX on the master (the range is amazing)- I key haven and a great song starter!
Falcon is incredibly powerful – way more so than I could ever fully utilize. Like others, I use it as a preset machine mostly. Maybe I’m just too old, but what I still don’t understand is even in v3 a sampler should well… have the ability to record samples!
Yeah, I get it… record into the DAW, then drag-n-drop, it’s not a big deal, but that’s not the full story (to me). Having an ‘auto sample’ feature in Falcon like the MPC and I think Halion on the VST side that auto sets the loop points would be freaking amazing.
The midi out feature in v3 looks pretty cool and I’ll spend some time with that this weekend.
Couldn‘t resist with the current discount and just went ahead and bought it. I have so many „supersynths“ (Phase Plant, Equator 2, Pigments, Vital etc etc), but Falcon 3 just looks sooooo powerful I thought I have to give it a spin.
Looking forward to messing around with it this weekend!
EDIT: LOL at myself for not realizing me last post was right before yours last year lamenting about the same thing. Grumpy man shaking fist at sky.
It’s crazy deep. Still hard for me to decide if it’s more sampler or build your own synth machine since it’s so deep on either front. Only thing it’s lacking for me is being an actual sampler and recording. I’d love to have an auto-sample feature like MPC’s or Halion have. That would be the killer feature for me.
I know it’s super easy to record into the DAW and drag/drop audio, but can’t understand why so many of these sampler plugins don’t actually sample. Probably just showing my age.
Have fun with it! It’s really quite remarkable software. Tons of tutorials on YouTube which I definitely needed. It was pretty daunting at first.
