Hi I’m trying to get an OTmk2 to work as a mobile studio
and I did some research and apparently this myvolts ripcord 12v cable works well with OT2
but now I’m wondering what battery pack I should get?
I have practically 0 knowledge regarding electronics so I have no idea what all the volts, watts, and mAhs mean…
I’m wondering if this 50000mAh battery pack i found online would work with the ripcord and octatrack…
Whoa, I wasn’t aware of a USB spec that went up to 3A of output. I’m referring to the three USB type A outputs on the upper right part of this power bank. With a single 12V ripcord, that should be able to power an OT mk2. The way to check would be this:
powerbank output: 5V, 3A;
P = V * I, so:
Power, P = 5V * 3A or P = 15 Watts.
Now, divide that power by 12 (the voltage required at the OT, to see how many amps the ripcord (theoretically) can provide.
Current I = P/V or I = 15 / 12, which gives a result of 1.25 Amps of current. This should be enough to power the OT.
The one thing to take care of though is whether the ripcord is rated to accept up to 3 amps of current on it’s USB plug. It might, but I’m not sure.
This is what it says on Amazon for ripcord…
It says max 2.4A so… should I look for a battery pack that delivers exactly 2.4A 5V output?? is anything below 2.4A not acceptable then? I have to find the exact match? Is that all I need to be concerned with when looking for a battery or is there any more that I should take into account so that my OT doesnt explode?
I really appreciate your effort to help me understand what all the P I V do and how they relate but my god am I stoopid it’s not connecting in my brain at all

It also doesnt help that english is not my first language which makes grasping the concept of electric tech sorcery even more difficult
No sweat. The biggest issue is that the Octatrack needs more current than the ripcord can provide. I would contact MyVolts and they will help you figure out the solution. I believe they now offer a piece that can merge the power from two ripcords in order to have enough current to power the OT. Of course, I think that means buying two 12V ripcords and the adapter, but after that any power bank with two regular USB outputs (~2.4 A) will be able to power the OT without issue.
edit: from that description, it sounds like a power bank that puts out 2.4 Amps should be enough to power the OT with a single ripcord.
That powerbank can output 12V, 18W directly from the USB-C plug.
It’s right there in the picture.
Just use a cable like this:
