Using octatrack to record demos

I’d be inclined to load the project where it is working, then take a note of all the settings, copy the part, start a new project past the part into the new project just to see if it works, it might well be a bug or it could be something else.

By original project I mean that I originally set everything up correctly in a previous project and it worked like it should, but then when I’ve tried to replicate that on new projects this problem persists. I’ve since then formatted my SD card out of desperation, so the “original” project does not exist anymore. Still, same problem.

Reserve recording set to NONE AFAIK has no relevance to this problem, and I do usually set it to none but I just hastily made a new project for the pictures.

There was an older post on here where someone couldn’t record more than 12 steps, so posting here in case one of the solutions makes something click for you and your situation (don’t worry, it’s not a very long thread!):

This thread seems related to Reserve Length and Tempo Multiplier. Apparently other problems.

Thought so. Just thought maybe one of the settings/ideas might give OP a eureka moment hehe. I’ll leave it to the experts to work out now :slightly_smiling_face:

@ghostbuddy, could you try this?
I just listed the minimum steps in order to record with max length. Please don’t modify other parameters.

New project
Memory Config > Dynamic Rec = Yes, Reserve Rec = None
NO > YES to confirm
Track 1 Rec Setup > One Shot Rec Trig
Play

If the recording doesn’t last more that 16 steps, it’s really weird.

Hi everyone !
I’m new to this forum, it helped me in great ways getting to know the octa beast. So hanks to all of you for this.

I don’t know if it will help you @ghostbuddy, but when you change the pattern length after setting a record trig, the trig is copied on all other bars. So if you’re working with more than 16 steps you could check that you don’t have more record trigs in other bars. I’m always getting caught by this.

Hah, this was actually the problem! I got confused when there seemed to be trigs I did not put in place, but going through the manual and then the trigs page I finally realised what the issue was: octatrack copying trigs to different pages and also that I sometimes edited the record trig, sometimes the play trig. All is good now and I got sampling pretty well figured out. Thanks to everyone for your help!
