Using multiple MIDI y-cables

Has anyone else run into issues using multiple MIDI splitter y-cables (i.e. with one input socket & two outputs) daisy-chained together to connect multiple bits of gear?

I’ve got a MIDI to CV eurorack module, a Blofeld and a little analog monosynth (an Mfb Nanozwerg) all of which I’m aiming to control from my Digitakt; they’re all set to respond to different MIDI channels.

I can plug any two of these external synths into the Digitakt’s MIDI out using a splitter cable, but if I add another splitter and connect all three, the Nanozwerg stops responding to MIDI at all.

I assume the solution here is just to buy a MIDI thru box and do away with the splitters entirely, but I wanted to check that I wasn’t missing something obvious. Any suggestions?

It’s probably just degrading the signal to the point where the Nanozwerg doesn’t accept it, I don’t think there’s any other reason. A MIDI Solutions Quadra Thru will solve it.
