I can’t figure out why my DT isn’t sending the same MIDI signals to both its midi outputs. I have a sequence on the Midi A track sending on channel 1, and if I connect the a midi cable to MIDI out A, the receiving device gets it, but connecting the cord to the MIDI Thru B output, nothing seems to happen. Needless to say, I have “Thru port func” set to “Midi.” I can’t seem to send MIDI notes or transport via the second output.
I have used the midi out and midi thru simultaneously when the thru was sending DIN/sync, so the port itself is not entirely broken, but I’m not sure what to try next.
Midi thru can only be used to pass incoming midi to another device OR as a dinsyc midi output where it can send clock and start/stop messages to (old) gear that can sync in dinsync.
If you plan on having multiple devices connected via midi, get a router instead. Much more useful.
Like a MidiXpressXT.
Old ones pre-USB are super cheap and work great.
What’s the full list of gear in the setup and what are you trying to control with what?
Sometimes it’s just a matter of setting channels correctly. I’m not sure if you know this, but you can have 16 different channels going over a single MIDI cable. If you have enough gear with MIDI thru, you might be able to just chain everything
Minibrute 2S (full size in/out, out configurable as through)
only needs transport, could use analog clock
The rest are getting note information from the DT
Mutant Brain (in only)
Sends PPQN+Run to pam’s and CV/Gate to the rest of the eurorack
Model:Cycles (1/8" in/out)
Bitbox Micro (1/8" in/out)
Conceivably I might use my opsix or ancient rack synths sometime. (all full size connectors)
So in principle I could daisy chain all along from the M:C, to the Bitbox, to the Mutant Brain, then use analog clock to control the minibrute. That would require me to get two more 1/8" MIDI adapters and sounds like a mess compared to connecting the DT to a hub of some kind and going out from there, regardless of any latency.
